"Then and Now — Easter at Westminster"

If you've been around Westminster for any length of time, you've likely seen the beloved photo of three little ladies looking out over Easter worship in 2019.
We thought it was time for an update — post-COVID — to see how things have changed. This year, we’re putting faces to the girls in the original photo: Annie, Grace, and Maddie Robers.

What started as a sweet moment will hopefully grow into a beautiful tradition. We're excited to make this an annual snapshot of these young ladies as they grow alongside our church family.

Westminster would like to thank the Robers family and Jim and Beth Felch for organizing the photo shoot on such a busy and sacred day.

Led by Rev. Dr. Carrie Benz Scott

In 1997, life slammed my family with enormous trauma. My unspeakable grief, pain and rage sent me deep into the pages of the Bible for help. As a Lectionary preacher, many of the texts I had savored and enjoyed suddenly seemed less rich, as though I now knew something they did not know. I discovered that few of the Lectionary texts spoke to me during this difficult time, but there was a host of texts that were all missing from the official Sunday readings which helped me survive. In the years since, I began to share those texts in Bible studies and sermons, and the effects of those texts on people in pain proved to be profound. In this class, we will talk about these missing or silenced texts and the impact they can have as spiritual resources for people in pain.

The Reverend Dr. Carrie Benz Scott is a graduate of Tufts University, Princeton Theological Seminary and Columbia Theological Seminary. She served churches in Morristown, New Jersey, Rochester, New York and Marietta, Georgia, in addition to serving as the Associate Executive for Evangelism & Church Growth in the Synod of the Northeast, and as an Adjunct Professor of Christian Education at the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta. She served on various task forces on multicultural ministry, immigrant ministry, and racial-ethnic ministry in Cherokee and Greater Atlanta Presbyteries, served as Moderator of Cherokee Presbytery, and was the longtime Chairperson of the Board of the Georgia Alliance to End Homelessness.  Carrie and her husband, David, are the proud parents of two daughters, one of whom is Westminster’s own Ally Hard. In retirement, they love spending time with their children and grandchildren.
