COMPANY COMMUNITY DAYS
700 our friends at Altafiber and The Gorilla Glue Company worked to beautify the neighborhoods of North Fairmount and South Cumminsville over the last couple of weeks– and phew! What a whirlwind!

Altafiber (formerly Cincinnati Bell) employees joined the North Fairmount Community Council and North Fairmount Community Center to help tackle some bucket-list items.  We cleared seven public stairways of overgrowth and debris (including one of the longest stairways in Cincinnati– the Merrell Street Steps!) Over 8 miles of sidewalks and roadways were cleared of overgrowth, litter and dumped items, and we even built a new garden space and pavilion for the community to enjoy. After some finishing touches, we’ll also be installing two new gateway signs as well.

The Gorilla Glue Company joined us for their second event of the year and we focused on three areas within the South Cumminsville community– Wayne Playground, Leadership Park, and our work-in-progress Spaces to Places site, the future Children’s Garden. We spread a MOUNTAIN of mulch for the play area in the park, planted thirty-five trees along the walking path, and gave the swingsets a fresh coat of paint at Wayne Playground. Leadership Park (and the gateway sign across the intersection) got a fresh coat of paint and some refreshed landscaping. And we made some incredible progress on the Children’s Garden– A new mural, the garden is taking shape with raised beds and fencing, and a natural playscape/seating area is in place. To top it off, we painted a new gateway sign to welcome all to the neighborhood of South Cumminsville.

Of course, we couldn’t have done it without the help from our partners. A HUGE thank you to both Altafiber and Gorilla Glue for your continued support– both financial and physical. Thank you to Cincinnati Public Services for coming out in full force to ensure we were able to pick up and dispose of all the trash and debris we collected for both events. Thanks to the Cincinnati Recreation Commission, the City Manager’s Office, and our wonderful community groups who helped in the planning and execution of the events.

Trash illegally dumped on ground.
In August of this year 39 separate incidents of dumping were captured with our cameras. A majority of these happened in Avondale, North Fairmount, South Fairmount, and Walnut Hills. If you see illegal dumping you can report it using the Fix It Cincy App or the Hamilton County R3source website.

ARTS

Tzedakah Box for Ish’s Be The Change Festival. Tzedakah Box for Ish’s Be The Change Festival.

This past weekend, our Arts team displayed their Tzedakah Box for Ish’s Be The Change Festival! We were excited to join and see the five boxes from local organizations across Cincinnati. Each box was themed around different causes, and Keep Cincinnati Beautiful’s box was Environmental Activism. Our Arts team focused on the heat island effect, and our interactive prompts helped passersby identify if they lived on a heat island. Be on the lookout for the box in BLINK on Oct 13-15, but in the meantime, check out the photos from Saturday!

DONORS FOR A BRIGHTER FUTURE

Keep Cincinnati Beautiful is so grateful to all of our donors for their support year round! We recently mailed out nearly 250 invitations to the Cincinnati Block Party to our donors to thank them and encourage them to attend and celebrate the great work they make possible. Our board members and staff continue to gather and rally fantastic items for our silent auction and gift card pull in advance of the big party; their dedication is your gain! Thanks, especially, to our Board President, Jeff Harris, for his support of the block party; to our Board Member Tim O’Connell who has provided Cincinnati Reds tickets for attendees of the block party; and to all of our staff for furnishing the odds and ends needed to make this event a success.
