Thank You For Your Patience and Understanding
No matter how long you plan for an event, you never know how it will go until it arrives. Yesterday's announcement of our first positive COVID-19 case was a perfect example. Thank you to all of our students, families, faculty, and staff who asked all of the right questions with patience and understanding as we navigated the situation. We like to look for silver linings around here (it is our dedication to balance and joy), so we are choosing to see this as a trial run for when we go to our scheduled online classes on November 30.
As we told our students, the fact that we made it 12 weeks into the school year before having a positive case is a testament to their compliance with our policies and protocols. Still, we knew that the odds were not in our favor to make it all the way through the semester without needing to go online. We are grateful to everyone for the sacrifices they have made to get us this far. Please continue to distance, wash up, and mask up. We are in this together!

While We Are Online
When we go to online learning, we use a modified schedule that allows for shorter class periods. This is based on what we learned in the spring about what worked best for our students. The schedule for the remainder of this week is above, In addition to their classes, students are expected to login for Announcements, Chapel, J-Block, Advisory, and Afternoon Programs according to the schedule. They will receive instructions for all of these virtual gatherings.

Ringing of the Chocolate Bells
Each year on November 11, we ring our Chapel Bells for 11 minutes at 11:11 a.m. Due to our online schedule, today, we'll be ringing at 11:20, but we will be ringing. The annual ringing of the "chocolate bells" is done in memory of those who died in World War I, in gratitude for the gift, and as a prayer for peace. Read more about this and other beloved SAS traditions.

COVID-19 Updates
My child was exposed to someone who tested positive. Does our whole family need to quarantine?
No, according to CDC recommendations, only someone who has had direct contact with a positive case needs to quarantine.
What is the difference between isolation and quarantine?
Isolation separates sick people with a contagious disease from people who are not sick. Quarantine separates and restricts the movement of people who were exposed to a contagious disease to see if they become sick.
The 4-County Active Case Rate
As of Tuesday, the seven-day average active case rate is .45%.
