Federal Update

Continuing Resolution to fund U.S. government

Earlier this week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 8337, a Continuing Resolution (CR) that will generally extend FY20 funding levels through December 11th, with a few exceptions. The U.S. Senate is expected to take up and pass the measure later this week, and President Trump has indicated he will sign the CR. This will avert a government shutdown that otherwise would have started Oct. 1st. Speaker Pelosi has indicated she would like to move quickly after the election to wrap up FY21 Appropriations before the 116th Congress adjourns.

State Update

Legislative Appropriations Request (LAR)

Late last month, state agencies and universities received Legislative Appropriations Request (LAR) instructions from the state.
Institutions include an administrator's statement at the beginning of the LAR, which serves as a narrative justification for the entity's legislative appropriations request. The administrator statements for Texas A&M University, Texas A&M University at Galveston and the Texas A&M Health Science Center, are below:
Gathering all of the required budget details and information, then submitting the final LARs (over 100 pages each) for each entity, is no small feat. A huge "THANK YOU" goes out to the Office of Budget and Planning, who led this effort and coordinated with Government Relations and many key contributing divisions and individuals across campus!

Texas A&M Advocacy

A programming effort housed by The Association of Former Students at Texas A&M University, the Texas A&M Advocacy Network exists to promote the interests and welfare of Texas A&M University by serving as an avenue for former students and friends of the university to engage key stakeholders on issues impacting Texas A&M University and higher education in the State of Texas.
