From the water tower's viewpoint, summer at Carleton looks serene and still—but campus is alive with activity. Construction and renovation projects are in progress, Summer Liberal Arts Institute programs have just finished up, and alumni will soon be back in town for the Milestone Reunion, the Carleton Alumni Volunteer Experience, and the Class of 2020 Celebration. Students are busy with professional development ( Hannah Davis '23 is interning and writing at the Smithsonian, and Ava Chisholm '22 is heading to Germany), and faculty and alumni are in the news as well; check out Cecilia Cornejo's solo art show in Rochester and the paintings of Pamela Sukhum '93 at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum next month. If you have news to share, do get in touch, and read on for more updates from campus and from the Carleton community.

Registration for The Gathering opens
This fall (Sept. 30-Oct. 2) marks the fifth reunion of The Gathering, and online registration is now open for all Carls. The planning committee is excited to be part of an event dedicated to creating a welcoming and affirming experience for Carls, bringing together old friends and providing the opportunity to make new ones across class years.
"One of the great things about being a Carl is the connectedness I feel with other alums, no matter the year. While we’re always striving towards improvement, whether it be issues of IDE, facilities or academics, there is, for me at least, an underlying, basic Carleton feeling that ties us all together. After the past two years, being connected is most welcome.” - Maya Theus ’00. Read the full story.

Expand Your Reading Horizons with the Alumni Book Club!
The Carleton alumni book club will embark on a new reading journey through October 7, and we would love to have you join us! We will read The Night Watchman: A Novel by Louise Erdrich and discuss it in our online forum.
The alumni book club is held online through a private discussion forum where members can respond to different questions about the book selection and other "bookish" topics at whatever time is convenient for them. We spend about two months reading each book to accommodate various reader schedules and preferences. It is easy and free!
