Thrive! Leadership Opportunities: Call for Nominations

Thrive! is pleased to announce a variety of openings for positions on our board and each of our committees: Communications, Engagement, Mentoring, and Professional Development & Networking, as well as the Thrive! Ambassadors group.
We invite all members to consider nominating themselves for one or more of these roles. Both the Board of Directors and the Committee positions are one-year terms beginning July 1.
For more information, check out our bylaws and consider attending the info session on Friday, Feb. 19 at noon or the March 19 Let's Zoom Lunch at noon, both of which will feature information about the self-nomination process, detail about the various leadership opportunities available, and an opportunity for Q&A.
If you are interested in any of these opportunities, please complete the Thrive! Self Nomination Form by March 30. If you know someone who would be great, encourage her to apply too!

The selection process will be administered by the Thrive! officers and steering committee chair, with the University's diversity statement in mind.

Walk the Walk Week

Given the global pandemic, the sixth annual campus-wide observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Walk the Walk Week will look different than in previous years. This year, we will observe Walk the Walk Week from February 22 through February 28, after the University community reconvenes on campus on February 3. Walk the Walk Week is a week-long series of University and department sponsored events designed to help each of us consider the steps we might take individually and collectively to make Notre Dame, our communities, and our nation more welcoming and inclusive.

Jessica Brice
Name: Melissa Guadalupe Medina
Title: Communication and Data Analyst, Department of Development
What's the most important lesson you've learned in your career to date?
The most important lesson I have learned is to always be open to when you have questions or doubts. There are people who are willing to listen and lend a hand, especially those in leadership position. My mentors, who I have met through ND Thrive, are leaders in their own respective divisions, and have been great at providing advice and counsel on different aspects of their professional life. I am inspired by their humbleness and kindness to listen and guide other young people through their professional development. Thank you ND Thrive for making this possible!
Grow your connections at Notre Dame and help others get to know you! Simply complete this form and we will feature you in an upcoming issue and on our website!

Just Mercy

By: Bryan Stevenson

An unforgettable true story about the potential for mercy to redeem us, and a clarion call to end mass incarceration in America — from one of the most inspiring lawyers of our time.

Stevenson's book has also been made into a movie featuring Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Foxx.

"Color blind or color brave?"

By: Mellody Hobson

The subject of race can be very touchy. As finance executive Mellody Hobson says, it's a "conversational third rail." But, she says, that's exactly why we need to start talking about it. In this engaging, persuasive talk, Hobson makes the case that speaking openly about race — and particularly about diversity in hiring -- makes for better businesses and a better society.
