While the Chinese New Year of the Rabbit has just hopped into gear, here at Brown Dog Foundation we’re declaring 2023 year of the Monkee!

After precious little Monkee was adopted more than ten years ago from a rescue in Tennessee by his mom, he developed a severe problem with his eye, and doctors determined that it had to be removed.

In January, we received 321 requests totaling just shy of $700,000 in requested funds. So far in February, we have received 110 requests totaling roughly $202,000 in requested funds. 

Based on Chart 1, we have been able to assist 77 families with our Education Program this year. Chart 2 demonstrates that we have funded 7 families directly with two active applications in process. 

In January, we offered 8 Initial Vet Visit Approval Letters, but only two families took advantage of them. One moved on to become a full application and the other was able to pay for the care themselves. 

In February so far, we have offered 5 Initial Vet Visit Approval Letters. One family has taken advantage with one expected to use their letter this week. 

At this exact moment, we would need to have more than $10,000 in funds immediately available to cover all requests in our queue.

Brown Dog’s different responses to people and their pets in need –including helping with vet bills, homeopathic treatments, funding surgery and medications, providing education and alternatives and so much more—appeals to Lyn as well. Since connecting with Brown Dog Foundation in 2010, Lyn said her life has been forever changed, all for the better!

Let’s all be like Lyn and put ourselves in the shoes of that person who may have to surrender or euthanize an otherwise healthy family pet. Here’s how we use your donations. Brown Dog Foundation quickly evaluates the requests for help that come into the organization and works to find ways to bridge the gap a pet owner needs to fund treatment. Brown Dog ensures that each family it helps is in a position to continue to treat their dog and care for it properly post-surgery through our unique prequalification process. Since 2006, Brown Dog Foundation has helped nearly 1700 families across the nation save their pet's life. Through our programs we educate about alternative treatment options, we refer families to lower cost veterinarians or pharmaceutical suppliers or we provide funding for life-saving treatments.
