Dear Students,
We are writing to follow up on a message sent earlier today by President Monaco condemning an act of homophobia discovered on the Medford/Somerville campus. We want to add our voices to President Monaco’s and categorically denounce this incident of bias and hatred, which contradicts our community’s core values.
We believe it is important for community members to reflect, connect with one another, and access resources and supports after such incidents. The LGBT Center will be having open hours between 1 and 2:30 p.m. this afternoon, and we invite all students to attend for an opportunity to reflect, ask questions, and find support. If you are not able to attend the open hours today, we invite you to visit the LGBT Center or call 617-627-3770 Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. We also want to encourage all students to take advantage of any of the other resources listed below.
Finally, we want to remind students about the methods available for reporting incidents of harassment, bias, and/or discrimination to the University:
- Office of Equal Opportunity (OEO) - All community members may report an incident to OEO directly by calling 617-627-3298, or by emailing oeo@tufts.edu.
- Ethicspoint - Ethicspoint is a third-party secure web tool that any member of the Tufts community can use to file a report directly with OEO. Ethicspoint offers a confidential/anonymous reporting option. In addition to the online Ethicspoint Incident Report form, community members may call EthicsPoint toll-free at 1-866-384-4277.
We strongly encourage members of the Tufts community to report any incident of harassment, bias, and/or discrimination. We also want to make clear that our offices remain committed to promoting diversity, inclusion, and respect at the University.
