The Spring 2022 Performance Program is Hitting the Stage!
We are ready to Rock your socks off in the First two weekends of this month.  The students have worked really hard over the last few months to put together an amazing show for you. Join us for three amazing shows!  The Smith vs. The Cure, the best of Paramore & Funkytown.  The shows are FREE  open to the public shows. The first is right here close to home in Downtown Silver Spring at the Fountain Stage Saturday June 4th from 12-6pm and our second show will be on Sunday June 12th at Songbyrd Music House in NE DC.   Details for both shows can be found on our Programs Site

The Adult Performance Program!

The Adult Performance Program is kicked off our end of season shows at McGinty's with an awesome performance! Thanks to all who came out - what a great crowd! Show director Jaime was extremely proud of what the group was able to accomplish this season.  Our adult programs run just like the ones for the young people, and is a proven format for moving your musical skills forward. Our next Adult Performance season is still to be determined but if you are interested or have any questions contact Rose at silverspring@schoolofrock.com. For adults that want to learn to play in a band but don't want the pressure of the live performance we offer Adult Rock 101.

Houseband is Back to Gigging Again!

Our House Band recently hit the stage in Downtown Silver Spring to bring some rock and roll to the community. We love playing in our own backyard and had such a great time playing for an awesome crowd and we loved the show. House Band will be back performing in DTSS for the Silver Spring Blues Festival on June 18, and we hope to see everyone there!  Like and follow our social media pages for all our upcoming gigs and performances.
Our Graduating Seniors!!!
We have a love/hate relationship with June.  It's the month when we get to rock the stage with our seasonal shows and kick off our amazing summer programs, but it's also when we have to send our seniors off.  Typically we spend many years with these students and have the privilege of watching them grow from littles to young adults and killer musicians.  We see them in all their teenage glory and love them so much. Truly.
Here's to the very special class of 2022 - you did it!

What are you going to do be doing after graduation?
I'll be attending Oberlin College in the fall and intend to major in musical studies. Over the summer, I'll be a rather busy musician. Outside of SoR, I play in a jazz group with other young musicians and already have several gigs booked for the next few months. All of this aside, I'm most looking forward to traveling with the School of Rock AllStars band. Getting into Allstars felt like the culmination of all the hard work I've put in at SoR whether it was being a student, part of performance program, or a member of House Band.
What will you take with you from your time at School of Rock?
School of Rock taught me the importance of being a team player, but more importantly taught me about my personality. On and offstage, I always aspire to be reliable, consistent, and effective at communicating. If I could give one piece of advice to anyone at School of Rock I band would say that you should always try playing with musicians better than yourself. When I first joined House Band, I had only been playing bass for about a year and I found myself surrounded by people notably better than me. Instead of being discouraged by this skill gap, I was inspired to work harder. I've learned a lot of things from my peers at School of Rock but most importantly, I credit my bass instructor P'Nut for all he's taught me in my five years at School of Rock.

What are you going to do be doing after graduation?
After graduation I’ll be attending the University of Maryland, College Park
What will you take with you from your time at School of Rock?
My biggest takeaway from being at School of Rock is though things may seem difficult or sometimes impossible at first with enough practice a goal can be completed.

Celia

What are you going to do be doing after graduation?
After graduation I will be going to the University of Vermont to major in Zoology and minor in Music.
What will you take with you from your time at School of Rock?
When I leave School of Rock I will take with me a love for music. I will also take with me what I have learned about playing bass and being in a band from all the amazing teachers at School of Rock.

Maya

What are you going to do be doing after graduation?
After graduation, I'm going to keep playing music with friends before heading to UMD in the fall!

What will you take with you from your time at School of Rock?
Sometimes it can be hard to understand how practice will actually translate into results. Seeing parts get easier and confidence develop as I practiced them more is a learning experience I'll for sure take with me.

Rhys

What are you going to do be doing after graduation?

After graduation I’m going to be heading to Salisbury in August to study Math Education.

What will you take with you from your time at School of Rock?

And the things I’ll take with me from school of rock are patience and practice are key to learning a part, getting along with people you’re working with is extremely important to have an amazing end result.

Say Hello to the  Newest Member of Our Team...

Caity Moschetto  - Studio Coordinator
We have grown as a school to the point where we needed a little more support administratively so after much searching for the right candidate we are excited to bring on board our new studio coordinator, Caity.  She will be here mostly on the weekends but we want to fold her into the culture here and make her feel welcome. Caity has always had a love for music. Since she grew up an hour's train ride away from NYC, seeing Broadway musicals on the weekends was the norm for her and her family. Caity has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the State University of New York at New Paltz, and is attending graduate school pursuing a degree in Counseling. Caity loves meeting new people and she is excited to have the opportunity to work in a place that cultivates awesome musicians!  Caity will be at the Downtown Silver Spring show this Saturday June 4th so be sure to stop by and say hello.

Summer 2022 is Rockin' Across America!

This summer at School of Rock SIlver Spring our Performance Program shows will be exploring the sound and musical history of four American Cities: Chicago, Seattle, Minneapolis, and Philadelphia. Instead of focusing on a particular artist or genre, we’re exploring what it means for music to come from a scene and how the scene evolves over time. We’ll see the wide variety of musical styles that can come from the same place as well as the way artists in the same community can influence each other. Every show this season will have room for students interested in a wide variety of music and will provide a challenge for beginner, intermediate and advanced students.  It's not too late to sign up but hurry and decide where you want to go musically this Summer.  If you missed the sign up email or need help decideing contact Rose on the school line  301-589-7625 or on silverspring@schoolofrock.com for help.
THOUGHTS FROM THE MOTHERSHIP
with Our Music Director -  Brooks
SUMMER - As we head towards the end of the school year and the beginning of summer, think about how to use the long break to work towards achieving your musical goals. Summer often means a lot of unstructured free time, so work with your instructor to come up with a practice schedule that keeps you on track. School of Rock has great opportunities in the summer to stay engaged with your musicianship, whether it's the summer season of the Performance Program, attending/interning at one of our incredible summer camps or taking an additional lesson. Finding a way to stay connected to music over the summer can set you up to hit the ground running in the fall. While it's important to stay engaged and use your time wisely over the summer, it's equally important to relax and have fun! The last thing summer should be for is burning out on the things you love. If you're going away, try to find a balance between staying engaged and staying relaxed. Keep rocking out and have a great summer!

Summer!!

We rock all summer long! Even if you will be vacationing or out-of-town this summer you can keep up with your music lessons and groups.
