A SONG & STORY READING CELEBRATION FEATURING DAVIS BATES AND ROGER TINCKNELL

Join acclaimed singers and storytellers Davis Bates and Roger Tincknell for A Song & Story Reading Celebration!
Together, Davis and Roger will present a musical program of songs and stories for families and children of all ages designed to support the 2018 Library Summer Reading Program:  Libraries Rock! This program has been funded by the Carlisle Cultural Council.
DROP-IN STORY TIME

Come listen to some stories, and then do a fun craft afterwards. This event is drop-in and suggested for ages 3 and up.

Featuring fossils, dinosaur skulls, velociraptor claws, and dinosaur skin and more dino artifacts that you can see and touch, as well as live animals such as monitor lizards, alligators, scorpions, birds, and snapping turtles, this is a program sure to excite any dinosaur lover. Registration required, and can be done by clicking here or calling the library at 978-369-4898. This program is sponsored by the Susan Zielinski Natural Science Fund.
MORNING MUSIC WITH JEFF JAM (AGES 0-4)

Jeff Jam is a friendly, goofy guy--as well as a certified Music Together® teacher-- who sings and performs songs for children of all ages. He travels all over Massachusetts, New England, and the world with his acoustic guitar, bringing songs and smiles to children everywhere.

Do you love playing Trivia?  The Carlisle Council on Aging (COA) has a wonderful volunteer who has hosted many a Trivia game and is willing to help facilitate a game for anyone from any town, 12+.  So if this sounds like fun, please register by calling the COA at 978-371-2895.
DROP-IN KNITTING GROUP

READING POETRY ANEW

Dip or dive into the pleasures of poetry. This informal course, led by Mary Zoll, will include poetry readings and reactions, discussions of the patterns and techniques used in the poems, and perhaps some intellectual understanding of the poems. This class meets one Tuesday a month, at 10:30 a.m. in the Hollis Room. Open to anyone interested in experiencing poetry; preregistration is not required. Mary Zoll has published a few poems and read a multitude of poems.

COMMUNITY BOOK GROUP: HILLBILLY ELEGY

August: Hillbilly Elegy, by J. D. Vance
Shares the story of the author's family and upbringing, describing how they moved from poverty to an upwardly mobile clan that included the author, a Yale Law School graduate, while navigating the demands of middle class life and the collective demons of the past.
REPLANTING LIVES UPROOTED BY MENTAL ILLNESS: SUPPORT FOR FAMILIES

Try out some new genres or settings while you’re on the beach, at the cabin, reading with children or grandchildren or catching up on your "to-read" pile.

MUSEUM PASSES OF THE MONTH

ROGER WILLIAMS PARK ZOO
Located amid 40 acres of beautiful woodlands, the Roger Williams Park Zoo provides visitors the opportunity to see animals from all over the globe – some more than a million years old. Naturalistic surroundings are home to more than 100 species of animals including a Komodo dragon, as well as zebras, red pandas, African elephants, Masai giraffes, snow leopards, bears, anteaters, flamingoes, sloths, and more!  Kids from two to 102 have the opportunity to feed giraffes and harbor seals, as well as an array of farmyard animals.  For something slightly out of the ordinary, visit our new Explore and Soar area offering an exhilarating zip ride, a train excursion through the woodlands, and camel rides.
THE HOUSE OF THE SEVEN GABLES
In 1668, merchant and ship-owner John Turner built a house on Salem Harbor that was destined to become one of America’s most beloved historic homes. Designated a National Historic Landmark District in 2007, The House of the Seven Gables is best known today as the setting of world-renowned American author Nathaniel Hawthorne’s 1851 novel. Admission includes:

  • A 35 – 40 minute guided tour of the Turner-Ingersoll Mansion (The House of the Seven Gables)
  • A visit to the Nathaniel Hawthorne Birthplace
  • Family fun at Kid’s Cove at the Counting House and seasonal Living History Labs
  • A stroll through the Colonial Revival seaside gardens
  • Audio tour of the gardens, grounds, and waterfront through the UniGuide App, available on your personal phone or tablet.
