Legislative Update
This year’s session of the Tennessee General Assembly has produced a great deal of interest in Tennessee’s litter problem. Multiple bills have been written to amend and strengthen the State’s Covered Load and Criminal Littering laws. One additional bill  elaborates the grants TDOT may offer in beautifying Tennessee. HB2194/SB2348 does not provide TDOT with additional funding for Litter Grants but does allow TDOT to offer grants for various roadway, waterway and shoreline initiatives. The bill has passed the Senate and is still being considered in the House. More information can be found at the link below.

Scenic Byways Booklet

Just in time for road-trip season, TDOT has ordered 24,000 print copies of the new Scenic Byway booklets, which can be found online at the link below. These print versions have a fresh forest green cover page and have been distributed to Tennessee Welcome Centers statewide. Print editions of these flipbooks, share the unique stories and intrinsic qualities of each byway. This effort was a partnership between TDOT and the Tennessee Department of Tourism Development.

On World Water Day on March 22nd, TDOT joined with Keep the Tennessee River Beautiful and other partners in Chattanooga to announce a network of 18 new Seabin devices that are to be established throughout the Tennessee River watershed. TDOT has grant funded 10 of the 18 Seabin devices, as well as two years of Living Lands and Waters cleanups, to benefit the river and it’s tributaries across the state. Seabin devices are automated and act as a large pool skimmer to filter litter, gasoline, oils and microplastics from the water. One Seabin device can remove up to 3,000 lbs. of litter annually. The devices are being installed at the following locations:
