Dear Members of the Schulich Alumni Community,

We are living in an unprecedented and turbulent time – one the modern world has not experienced in over 100 years. One can even say that we are well beyond the scope of the Black Swan events of recent times and are now experiencing a “perfect storm”. It is therefore vital that we remain prepared and vigilant as we all work together to minimize the impact of this pandemic.

Even before the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the COVID-19 virus outbreak a global pandemic, the entire Schulich community has been working tirelessly to prepare for this disruption. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of our faculty and staff and the early adoption of several of the world’s leading technologies for online learning (Zoom and CANVAS), we were able to successfully and quickly transfer all Schulich courses to an online format. As a result, our students are now able to complete their studies this semester.

The safety of everyone within the Schulich community remains our highest priority. All of our decisions have been guided by the principle that we must mitigate all potential risks regarding the spread of the COVID-19 virus. As a result, we have cancelled or postponed all Schulich School events and travel until further notice, including this year’s Alumni Recognition Awards and CONNECT, our annual alumni forum. Despite these disruptions, our School’s Alumni Relations & Development Office is continuing to work remotely with our alumni, who play a vital role in the operation of our School and the success of our students.

We should all be proud of the extraordinary efforts of members of the Schulich community in these trying times. To all of our alumni – thank you for your continued support and understanding as we continue to navigate our way during this global pandemic.

Please take care of yourself and your loved ones. Stay safe, and wherever possible, let us help one another during this extraordinary time.

Sincerely,

Dezsö J. Horváth, CM, PhD
