Nicholaus Parziale, PI and ME Associate Professor, received an ONR DURIP award of $313K for his project “Novel Measurements in Multiphase and/or Turbulent Supersonic and Hypersonic Flows.”

Xiaojun Yu, PI and BME Professor, and Dr. Samgamesh Kumbar (Co-PI, University of Connecticut Health Center), received a US Army Medical Research Acquisition Activity award of $2M for his project “Bioactive Nerve Grafts for Peripheral Nerve Regeneration.”

Junfeng (James) Liang, PI and CCB Professor, received an NJHF award of $50K for his project “Artificial Enzymes Enabled Diabetic Wound Repairs.” He was also selected as special issue editor of "Properties and Biomedical Applications of functional Oligo- and Poly-peptides", Journal of Functional Biomaterials.

The work of Kwahun Lee, CCB Assistant Professor, titled "Ligand Separation on Nanoconstructs Affects Targeting Selectivity to Protein Dimers on Cell Membranes" was recently published in Nano Letters (acs.org).

The work of Yong Zhang, CCB Professor and co-author Rahul Khade, CCB Lecturer, titled "Mechanistic manifold in a hemoprotein catalyzed cyclopropanation reaction with diazoketone" was recently published in Nature Communications. In addition, Zhang's paper titled "Reusable HNO Sensor Derived from Cu Cyclam: A DFT study on Mechanistic Origin of High Reactivity and Favorable Con-formation Changes and Potential Improvements" (with 1 Ph.D. student and 2 undergraduate students as co-authors) was accepted for publication in the January 2024 edition of Inorganic Chemistry.

The Army Corps of Engineers wants to build storm surge barriers in Jamaica Bay to protect against flooding. However, environmentalists and scientists, including Stevens' Philip Orton, argue that such barriers could disrupt the bay's ecosystem and exacerbate flooding problems. Orton suggests filling in channels instead.
