Dear Cathedral Family,
Since many of you could not attend the Evening of Excellence, I'd like to take this opportunity to update you on the State of the School and express my heartfelt gratitude for your continued support and involvement in the Cathedral community.
At Cathedral High School, we continue to find new and innovative ways to share our zeal for our faith! Last December, we hosted our first-ever Christmas on the Hill. Modeled after the University of Dayton's Christmas on Campus, Cathedral was blessed to have more than 300 children from the Enlace Academy on campus for coloring, hay rides, Christmas cookie making, and more. Each Enlace student left Cathedral with a Christmas present and special memories. It was a beautiful morning, and we plan to host Christmas on the Hill again this year on December 9. In addition, we plan to bring Christmas to a Catholic grade school in North Carolina that was devasted by Hurricane Helene. We'll share more about our efforts soon!
We also had our first outdoor Live Stations of the Cross last year. Campus Ministry, our theater department, and our choir did a magnificent job, and it was a glorious, spiritual experience for all of us on the Hill.
In 2023-24, we added a Middle School Show Choir, Lucky Charms. Thanks to our fabulous Choir Director, Marian Bender, and her assistant, Jordan Fox, Cathedral has a direct pipeline for outstanding musical talent. We look forward to their second competition season this year.
Our AP numbers continue to rise.
In 2022, 569 students took 716 exams, and 57% earned a score of 3 or higher.
In 2023, 478 students took 1,047 AP exams, and 57% earned a score of 3 or higher.
In the spring of 2024, 551 students took 1,302 exams, and 62% earned a score of 3 or higher. And nearly 70 of our students were named AP Scholars, AP Scholars with Honors, or AP Scholars with Distinction!
We are thrilled to share that we doubled the number of students earning the AP Capstone Diploma to 19, with several of our graduates earning 50 college credit hours! This growth is a promising sign for the future of our school and the academic excellence of our students. The College Board recently recognized Cathedral as a 2024 AP Honor Roll School and awarded us the 2024 AP Access Award for ensuring AP coursework is equally available to all students, no matter their background.
A Top 10 of the Class of 2024 highlights how our students and educators answered the call to greatness!

Holy Cross Pilgrimages
Cathedral would like to thank donors Dan '70 and Betsy Brunette for their tremendous generosity in establishing the Dan '70 and Betsy Brunette Educator Investment Award. This award provides life-changing Holy Cross pilgrimages for Cathedral educators. Two groups recently returned from their week-long pilgrimages, one to France and one to Italy. The France group included Greg Bamrick, Maribeth Cloud '86, Victoria Schneider '84 Temple, Marian Bender, Mark Matthews, Kathy Douglass, Linda Bamrick, and Father Jomy Mathew. Board Chair Victoria Schneider '84 Temple joined the group but did not receive an Investment Award for her trip. The France pilgrims immersed themselves in Holy Cross history, traveling in the footsteps of Blessed Basil Moreau, the founder of Holy Cross. The group prayed in numerous historic churches in several cities, including Paris, Le Mans, Ruille-sur-Loir, Tours, La Chapelle-Montligeon, Alencon, and Lisieux.

The Italy group included Greg Smith, Michael Moffatt, Jon Kane, Dawn Gilmore, Grace Trahan-Rodecap, and Beth Wissler. These pilgrims witnessed the Pope's Angelus and Papal Audience, attended Masses at the Vatican, and enjoyed a day and a half in Assisi immersed in the history of St. Francis and St. Clare. The pilgrims also spent time in Orvieto. Some of the phrases the educators used to describe their journey included "an incredible experience full of Holy Cross history, spiritual growth, culture, and adventure," "all glory to God," and "amazing pilgrimage full of beauty, wonder, and great spiritual meaning." Cathedral is immensely grateful to Dan '70 and Betsy Brunette for making these life-changing experiences available for our educators. "Zeal is the great desire to make God known, loved, and served, and thus bring knowledge and salvation to others. Educators who possess it fulfill the duties of their profession with enthusiasm, love, courage, and perseverance." - Blessed Basil Moreau

While in France, Father Jomy offered Mass using the Founder of Holy Cross Blessed Basil Moreau's chalice. What a special blessing for our pilgrims. The Italy pilgrims attended the Pope's Angelus and the Papal Audiences. Both groups prayed in some of the most beautiful and historic churches in the world. Pictured right is the Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi.
