Relax with food, drinks and games ahead of finals week: Students – Do you need a break before moving into finals week? We have you covered! Stop by the Stauffer-Flint Hall lobby on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week. We will have grab-and-go drinks and snacks, study break activities and information about other self-care resources.

- Tuesday: Make a coffee or tea, get some donuts and visit the friendship bracelet making station.
- Wednesday: Grab a slice of pizza around 11:45 a.m., while supplies last!

Thursday: Nothing says winter like a cocoa bar. Grab a hot drink, some popcorn, and enjoy a holiday movie in the Resource Center in the morning.
- Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday: Do you need a quiet space to destress and recharge? Room 317 in Stauffer-Flint will be available for students who need a break and a chance to reset.

Undergraduate students – The application for 2026-27 JMC scholarships is open! Current JMC undergrads can apply via https://ku.academicworks.com/. Click the red “Sign In” button at the top of the page, then log in with your KU online ID and password. You may be asked to complete a general questionnaire before moving to the School of Journalism and Mass Communications Undergraduate Scholarship Application. Please be sure to complete the correct application, as there are two versions in the system right now. Please do not complete the application for incoming students. The application deadline is Jan. 25, 2026.

The Good Morning Indian Country team was invited to present at the Mid-America All-Indian Museum in Wichita, KS, on Saturday, Nov. 22, as part of a members-only event celebrating the opening of the Smithsonian traveling exhibition "Americans," which explores Native imagery in American history and contemporary culture.
Advertising competition deadline is Jan. 7: JMC students are welcome to enter the American Advertising Federation advertising awards competition. The deadline to submit entries is Jan. 7, 2026. More information is available here.

JMC School hosting professional development sessions: Professional activities are important resume builders as well as great introductions to what media professionals do. The School of Journalism and Mass Communications will be offering a special initiative during the Spring 2026 semester for up to 20 freshmen and sophomores. Participants will be selected to attend professional development sessions and supervised professional activities related to their majors in the School. Watch your email for more information on this and how to apply. Students who complete the courses and activities will receive a cash award.
A series of webinars connecting aspiring journalists to Washington, D.C. reporters, editors and bureau chiefs is available to attend throughout the month. These programs are specifically designed for journalism students to gain practical insights into the changing culture and practices of media organizations. More information is available here. Students in JMC 640 (Campaigns in Digital Marketing Communications, Advertising and Public Relations) will present to their assigned companies before the end of the semester. Lecturer Lisa Lowen’s class will present to the authors of The Simple Road Toward Financial Freedom on Thursday, Dec. 4, from 6-8 p.m. in Stauffer-Flint 303. Assistant Professor of the Practice Alex Treaster’s class will present to the Cosmosphere on Wednesday, Dec. 10. The first group will present at 12 p.m. in the Clarkson Gallery, and the rest of the groups will be between 2-4 p.m. in the same location.

Professor Mugur Geana remotely attended the successful dissertation defense of Dr. Alfredo Urbina Carreno on Nov. 12, held at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile in Santiago. Dr. Geana was the external member of the dissertation committee. While completing his doctoral studies, Dr. Urbina was a visiting scholar at KU during the fall 2023 semester. The collaboration with the prestigious Chilean university was made possible by the Agreement of Cultural, Educational, and Scientific Cooperation signed in 2021 between the University of Kansas and the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile.

Faculty Finals Fest: To celebrate all that faculty do throughout the semester, faculty are invited to the annual "Faculty Finals Fest," an open house event with snacks, informal networking, and a few fun, low-key activities to help you recharge before finals week, put on by the KU Office of Faculty Affairs. It is a come-and-go event on Dec. 3 and 4 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. in 36 Strong Hall.
The Bales Choral Society will present its fall semester concert at 7 p.m. Saturday at the St. Lawrence Catholic Center, 1631 Crescent Road. The Bales Choral Society is made up of KU faculty, staff and students who represent many departments and disciplines across campus. KU brass and percussion musicians make up the orchestra. Admission is free, and no ticket is required. Doors open at 6:40 p.m., and parking is available in regular lots on the KU campus.
