Welcome to the March issue of Flourishing Together. We are excited to celebrate Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month with you. We deeply value the gifts, friendship, and contributions of children and adults with disabilities throughout our region and state. Our lives are enriched when we can all live, learn, worship, and work in a community together. The Center will feature the insights and experiences of several individuals with developmental disabilities throughout the month. We also hope you will join us for our many upcoming events. Keep up with our social media and website for more information. We aspire to grow our interdisciplinary work and invite you to collaborate with us on research, training, programming, and community outreach.

Dr. Kristen Muller is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders and a Center affiliate. Church Stories: Learning from Parents of Children and Youth with Disabilities |
The Center is invested in helping faith communities welcome and embrace children with disabilities and their families. We are excited about our new Accessible Worship as One project, funded through an implementation grant from the Lily Endowment under their Nurturing Children Through Worship and Prayer Initiative. As part of this project, we want to hear the church stories of families throughout central Texas. This will help us develop a new and flexible framework for designing accessible worship and other congregational activities that meaningfully engage children with disabilities and their families.
The purpose of our new Church Stories study is to understand the church experiences and insights of parents of children and youth with developmental disabilities. We will address the following research questions:
|
- What are the church experiences of children with disabilities and their families?
-
What factors impact meaningful participation for young people with disabilities and their families?
- How are parents navigating the faith formation of their children with disabilities?
- What advice and requests do parents have for churches in this area of ministry?

The reason for giving to the BCDD goes beyond just donating money; it funds research for children with a developmental disability so they can flourish in their lives. It doesn't stop there; it also helps fund those resources for kids to learn about transitioning from childhood to adulthood. The BCDD envisions a future where people with disabilities and their families have the opportunities, support, services, and relationships to thrive in all aspects of their lives and communities. By donating, you are a central part of making this all happen. Donate Today!
