Hello Jumbos,
This week, we're introducing the Academic Resource Center!

This Week's News and Announcements

How Does the ARC Support Your Academics?

The Academic Resource Center (ARC) offers free one-on-one consultations in time management and study strategies, writing support, and presentation skills, as well as tutoring for introductory-level courses in sciences, math, economics, computer science, and foreign languages. We promote engaged, collaborative learning throughout your Tufts career with programs that build on your strengths while addressing your concerns and questions.

We offer different experiences depending on your year. Most first-year students find us through the following programs:

  • Taking an introductory science, math, economics, engineering, or language course? Check out our Subject Tutoring program for support outside the classroom. If you are taking Bio 13 or Chem 1, we recommend joining our  Study Groups.
  • Whether you are enrolled in first-year writing or another writing-intensive class, our Writing Support programs demystify college writing by helping you clarify your argument, organize your ideas, and better understand the conventions of different disciplines.
  • Adjusting to college life involves finding solutions for new challenges. Discover personalized strategies for life balance, procrastination, prioritization, stress reduction, and more by working with a Time Management & Study Strategies consultant!

How Do I Book a Tutor?

For subject tutoring, writing consultations, and one-time TM&SS sessions:
  • Log in to SIS with your Tufts username and password.
  • Select “Tutor Finder” from the “Academics” drop-down menu.
  • Choose the subject or type of consulting you want.
  • Pick a time that works for you!
  • To request ongoing TM&SS consulting, go to go.tufts.edu/tmsssession.
Keep in mind:
  • It’s a good idea to go to the first week of classes and gather syllabi and other materials before booking a tutor.
  • At the same time, don’t wait until the end of the semester! Working with a tutor early is the best way to establish healthy habits for writing and studying.
  • If you have any questions, email us at arctutoring@tufts.edu, call 617-627-4345, or stop by our office in 720 Dowling Hall!
  • Find out more at go.tufts.edu/arc!

Who Are the ARC Tutors and Consultants?

ARC tutors and consultants are Tufts undergraduate and graduate students who have a passion for collaboration and learning! All ARC tutors and consultants complete a rigorous selection process and intensive training. First-year students can apply after their first semester to be subject tutors or writing fellows starting in their sophomore year.

Identity-based Centers

Next week, we're going to introduce Tufts' Identity-based Centers. Each of these six Centers is a resource for students interested in thinking about social identities and how they impact our lives and the world we live in. The Centers host many events throughout the year and provide students with opportunities for discussion and leadership.
