I DID IT MY WAY

Warm Hearth Village and Virginia Tech Center for Gerontology present “I Did It My Way”, a research-based theatrical production designed to help seniors and their families face decisions about retirement and health care.  Join us for a comical exploration of how families approach the significant life decision of moving from home to a health care setting and all the laughter and sadness that ensues.  We will share the experiences of more than 30 local families in an attempt to learn and gain comfort from their trials and triumphs.  You don’t want to miss this and seating is limited.

Thursday, April 19 • 7-9 pm
The Village Center at Warm Hearth
2387 Warm Hearth Drive, Blacksburg

Refreshments will be served.

WALNUT POINTE

Planning with our architect and engineers continues on the proposed independent living apartment project at Warm Hearth Village. Walnut Pointe is nearing the final phases of planning and design and is slated to go to the Warm Hearth Inc. Board of Directors for official approval in May. Currently we are working with local government officials to finalize zoning, pricing, and other project-related details. Warm Hearth’s Marketing Department also plans to assemble a small group of prospective residents who have expressed interest in the project to review and receive feedback on the most recent plans and details. Stay tuned for more information on our progress in the coming months!

SPOTLIGHT ON... CAREGIVERS-

REBA GRUBB

Reba Grubb is a Companion with Warm Hearth at Home and has been a part of their team since 2015. Reba has made a tremendous impact on her co-workers, clients, and the community at large with a kind and gentle spirit and compassionate approach to caregiving. She has been an inspiration to her teammates at Warm Hearth at Home, who have cited numerous examples of the compassionate care she provides and her willingness to pitch in and help out whenever and however she is able.

The family of a former Warm Hearth at Home client shared the following about Reba and the excellent care she provided. “We want to thank Reba for the warm and caring companionship she provided to our mother over a period of several years. We and Mom grew to love Reba. She did so much to bring Mom joy and laughter in the last years of her life. In addition, Reba kept the house spotless and did so many things to make the house a very special surrounding. Reba took Mom for drives, helped her sit outside, read her the paper, and so much more. We never worried about Mom when Reba was with her.” (Shared by Craig and Pam Little.)

INTRODUCING AI CHI

The Warm Hearth Village Fitness Center is now offering Water Tai Chi, (formally known as “Ai Chi”). Ai Chi is a total body relaxation and strengthening technique practiced standing in shoulder-deep water. It uses slow, broad movements coordinated with deep breathing. Created in Japan by Jun Konno, this therapeutic technique is based on elements of Qi Gong and Tai Chi.

Ai Chi utilizes the buoyancy and resistance naturally created by water along with continuous, integrated movements that involve moving the body in multiple directions. Paired with careful attention to diaphragmatic breathing, Ai Chi helps to achieve a calm state of mind. Oxygen and caloric consumption are also increased simply with correct form and positioning in the water.

“Fitness members that need to rid themselves of anxiety and stress are the ideal candidates for our Ai Chi class,” says Kenny Harrah, Fitness Director. “Ai Chi lessens the likelihood of fatigue by keeping the pace very slow and resting occasionally throughout the class in the relaxing 89-degree water.”

Come by and experience Ai Chi for yourself at 4:45pm Wednesdays and 10am Saturdays. If you’re not already a member of the Fitness Center and are 55 years or better, call us today to learn more about membership options at 540-443-3474.
