Young Alumni Award Recipient
Cory Jackson, '12, was recognized at December's Commencement ceremony as the 2016 Young Alumni Award recipient. Cory, based in Asheville, NC, earned the honor in recognition of his tireless efforts to provide equal access to healthy food for all. He has been a key leader in the development of the YMCA's nutrition department, including the launch of the country's first Healthy Living Mobile Kitchen. Congratulations Cory and thanks for being such a great representative of Grand Valley!

European Alumni, We'll Be Seeing You This Spring
Please join GVSU President Thomas J. Haas, his wife Marcia, and European and Albanian alumni of GVSU on 13 May for an alumni reception in Tirana, Albania. Local hosts include fellow GVSU alumni Erion Veliaj, '02, the current Mayor of Tirana, and Eglantina Gjermeni, '97, current Minister of Urban Development, the Republic of Albania.

Celebrating Women in Sports
Join fellow Lakers at a special reception on Saturday, February 18. We'll celebrate the grand accomplishments of GVSU alumnae who were members of varsity/club sport teams, or were students who majored in movement science and physical education. Following the reception, cheer on the Laker Women's Basketball Team in their game against Northern Michigan University.

Gov. Appoints Investment Firm Executive and Current Trustee to GVSU Board
Gov. Rick Snyder announced the appointment of Randall S. Damstra, '82, and the reappointment of Kate Pew Wolters to the Grand Valley State University Board of Trustees. The eight-year terms began January 1, 2017.

Keynote Speakers Announced for MLK WeekTwo national personalities will highlight Grand Valley's commemoration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Week with keynote presentations in January. Kevin Powell, author, humanitarian and president of BK Nation; and Kimberlé Crenshaw, professor of law at UCLA and Columbia and civil rights expert, will visit campus January 16 and January 18, respectively.
