CONGRATULATIONS
CCAC AUSTIN TEAM MEMBERS
AND
CHICAGO DEPARTMENT OF PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT
In August, the Chicago Department of Planning and Development posted three Invest South/West RFP’s including development opportunities in Austin. Please visit the City of Chicago website for more information.

CCAC members, listed below, assisted the Department with drafting the Austin RFP focused on design excellence. It was an honor to work with the talented DPD team, and the CCAC is proud to have fulfilled its mission of providing world class talent to better the City we love.  Congratulations and many thanks to all who participated!

Below please see a brief overview of the Neighborhood Action Initiative—Austin Neighborhood, a copy of the Letter from the Commissioner taken directly from the Austin RFP, and CCAC's Member Team Profile.

Neighborhood Action Initiative—
Austin Neighborhood
The Soul City Corridor—Chicago Avenue in the Austin Neighborhood—focuses on guiding development of underutilized land with the goal of promoting Black culture, arts, and entertainment, and seeking econom- ic development, job creation, and new development that serves neighborhood residents. Under the City’s Invest South/West Initiative, the plan is a framework to help guide both public and private investment; a roadmap for neighborhood stakeholders, residents, City officials, and developers to follow. It identifies sites of interest that are susceptible to change/redevelopment, and it applies both real estate market research and neighborhood input to form highest- and-best use recommendations for three key sites amongst oth- ers along the corridor. The plan casts a big picture vision for reinvestment and economic development on the corridor to serve neighborhood needs and ambitions. Quality of life is at the forefront of this plan as it includes everyday neighborhood serving retail, provision of community services, affordable and market-rate housing, and addressing ‘eyes-on-the-street’ crime prevention through an infill development strategy that prioritizes the design excellence of Austin neighbors and business entrepreneurs.

Letter from the Commissioner of Planning and Development

Greetings,

On behalf of the City of Chicago, the Department of Planning and Development (DPD) is pleased to present this Request for Proposals (RFP) for a prime development site within the Austin community.

The RFP is a key component of Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot’s INVEST South/West neighborhood revitalization strategy for Chicago’s South and West sides. Its location and scope were coordinated through an extensive community engagement process involving local residents, businesses, elected officials and other stakeholders. Through new quality-of-life amenities, jobs, and other outcomes, the selected development’s potential impact on Austin is expected to resonate for generations to come.

As one the first RFPs to be issued by the City through a coordinated, commercial corridor revitalization strategy, the RFP includes renderings of potential development concepts that were provided on a pro bono basis through a partnership between DPD and the Chicago Central Area Committee (CCAC) lead by the Chicago office of Perkins+Will. In the spirit of INVEST South/West, the RFP also includes a pre-qualified list of design teams that can help a selected respondent fulfill the City’s diversity and inclusivity goals.

DPD staff and our community partners appreciate your interest in the site. Please consider other INVEST South/West opportunities at chicago.gov/investsw. We look forward to demonstrating the incredible potential of the South and West sides in the months to come.

Sincerely,

Maurice D. Cox

Commissioner
