Directors Note:

As the weather transitions from summer to fall, our students and faculty are immersed in fall semester coursework and projects.  We have some impressive projects underway both in our course assignments, and especially in sponsored industry projects through the Applied Computing Institute.  I encourage our alumni and employers to propose challenging and rewarding projects as they can benefit both existing students, and the institutions who receive the finished product.  Our curriculum offerings continue to grow.  Begining Winter 2023 we will be offer a minor in cybersecurity in addition to the BS and MS degrees. This minor provides the foundations for a career in this high-demand discipline.  The minor can be combined with numerous majors and programs as cybersecurity has impacted almost all aspects of our lives.  We are also nearing completion of a new BS in data science and analytic program.  As we are now well into the fall semester, the final enrollment numbers are in, and our four graduate programs have doubled in the number of students since last fall.  The MS in applied computer science and data science & analytics programs in particular have seen enormous interest and enrollment.  Lastly, if you are in a position to propose using a computing intern, this enrollment growth also will require many more internship placements.  I encourage all of our industry partners to consider increasing the number of intern positions this next year.  To our faculty and students, I wish you a rewarding learning experience, keep up the hard work.

*NEW* Undergraduate Minor:

The School of Computing is excited to annouce that begining Winter 2023 semester students will be able to declare the new minor in Cybersecurity. Cybersecurity is one of the fastest growing areas in the tech industry, so providing this opportunity for students of any major is going to help them succeed after graduation. You can find out more about the minor and the courses it entails at the link below.
