It's Time for CMS Spring Cleaning! |
Hi CMS User,
Now that spring is well underway, it's a good time to review your assets and the accessibility of your CMS pages to ensure everyone has full access to your content.
Review and Remove Old Assets |
The Digital Asset Manager (DAM) that stores all of the assets for the CMS has a finite capacity, so you may notice things running more slowly than you'd like when trying to upload or access a file. That’s to be expected when hundreds of people are storing hundreds of gigabytes worth of digital media on the same server.

Digital Accessibility To-Dos |
It is important to annually review all of your content to ensure it is fully accessible. To help you prioritize where to focus your efforts when creating and reviewing content, we've partnered with the Digital Accessibility Program to compile a list of common accessibility mistakes seen on the NYU website.
Focus on these areas first:
- Headings
- Graphics
- Links
- Video Captions
Did you know that PDFs are often inaccessible to people with disabilities? PDFs can be made accessible, but it depends on how a PDF is created. For example, PDFs of scanned documents and content "printed to" PDF are essentially image-only files, which are difficult to use by most people—and are especially difficult for people who use assistive technologies such as screen readers.
As you review your documents, ask yourself: Does this document need to be a PDF?

| Reminder: Accessible Content is Required
As a reminder, all newly created, newly published, or recently edited webpage content, documents (e.g., spreadsheets and PDFs), and multimedia (e.g., video and audio) must be accessible.
NYU considers ensuring access for all a top priority in our overall website experience—when we design for inclusivity, we improve the site experience for everyone. As CMS users, you’re responsible for your content—and by creating accessible content, you can help make NYU.edu more inclusive. Learn more about digital accessibility at NYU.
