Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)

  1. What makes me a Dependent or Independent for financial aid? A list of conditions is found on the Federal Student Aid website.
  2. My/my parent’s income changed since 2019, what do I report? The FAFSA/CADAA requires 2019 income information. The Financial Aid Office will offer a Loss of Income Appeal (available Summer 2021) to report changes to income after 2019 on the Student Service Center website
  3. Do I provide my parent’s information on the FAFSA/CADAA? The application is designed to automatically determine if your parent’s information is required based on the answers you’ve provided. Review the full list of criteria on the Federal Student Aid website
  4. My parents did not claim me as a dependent on their 2019 income taxes, do I still report their information? Tax exemptions are not the same as dependency conditions for financial aid purposes. Reference the list of criteria in Question #3 to determine if parent information is required.
  5. How do I know that my application was submitted? You will receive a confirmation email upon completion of your application from FAFSA/CADAA. Sac State anticipates loading aid applications in late-November 2020 and will notify you via your My Sac State email.
