OUR DEEPEST GRATITUDE

When we’re called upon to help each other in the face of fear, we realize how deeply we are ingrained in our community. We watch in awe as our nurses and front-line staff step up; residents, families and the community reach out with words of praise and support and our employees reach out into the greater community to lend a hand.

Today our Employee Emergency Assistance Fund stands at $29,000 and we’ve been able to help our hourly employees who have been furloughed or whose hours have been reduced as a result of COVID-19.  The Warm Hearth Foundation has received grants totaling $4,000 from The United Way and The Community Foundation of the NRV to help with supplies and expenses related to the virus. Local mask makers have provided more than 200 cloth masks to help keep our residents and employees safe.

Thank you to all who made masks, donated supplies and money and who brought gifts of food and cards for our residents and employees. We are truly grateful for your support and have never been more proud to be a part of this caring community.

THANK YOU NURSES!
The Warm Hearth Village and Warm Hearth at Home family is made up of more than 200 nurses and CNAs on campus and in your homes throughout the NRV.  Now, more than ever their superpowers and heroism are leading the way through the pandemic and we’re taking this week and the entire year to shine a light on what makes them special. Join us in celebrating all nurses during National Nurses Week, May 6-12 and all year-long as 2020 has been declared Year Of The Nurse by the World Health Organization.

Did you know our nurses are…

  • Educating themselves on all of the information from the CDC as well as numerous other sources and leading their teams/clients/residents in insightful conversations about the future with COVID-19

  • Working with housekeeping to assist with more stringent cleaning requirements
  • Taking on the role of family by providing emotional support, pampering and personal shopping more than ever while families are unable to visit

  • Learning to smile with their eyes because the mask covers what they have relied on in the past to relay joy to patients

  • Nursing staff at Showalter Center have opened the Tea Tree Salon and are washing, styling and giving makeovers to the ladies who live there.

Take a moment. Thank a nurse!

WE'RE STILL HERE FOR YOU

Even though our Village is closed to visitors at this time, we are still here to help you and your family with long-term care needs. Warm Hearth Village is still taking admissions with stringent screening practices and we have no confirmed cases of COVID-19 on our campus.  Visit retire.org for a virtual tour and to learn more about assisted living, memory care, skilled and long-term care at the Village. We do have a few openings at this time.

PARKINSON'S VIRTUAL MOVING DAY ON MAY 9TH
On Parkinson's Virtual Moving Day, we celebrate movement – proven to help manage Parkinson’s symptoms.

Go to MovingDayWalk.org on Saturday, May 9th and you’ll hear real people telling their stories of living with Parkinson’s, loving people with Parkinson’s and working to beat Parkinson’s. And in between those inspiring stories, fitness experts from across the country will offer mini workout sessions you can do right from your living room!
When our fitness center reopens, Warm Hearth offers Rock Steady Boxing, a unique exercise program based upon training used by professional boxers to help alleviate the symptoms associated with Parkinson’s disease. Call Kenny Harrah at (540) 443-3474 for more details and to see if you or a loved one might benefit from Rock Steady Boxing at Warm Hearth Village.

PAYING IT FORWARD

Even during a pandemic, we see the best in humanity. On April 28th, Kassie Wright, a Christiansburg Subway employee, used her stimulus check to purchase sandwiches for seniors in need at Warm Hearth Village. Thank you to Kassie and all the Subway staff who helped make more than 150 sandwiches, proving love and kindness will always win. Click here to see the full news story on WFXR.

QUARANTINE'S GOT TALENT

We’ve been hearing so many stories about residents throughout the Village getting creative during the quarantine.  Many have found new ways to stay busy, share their hobbies and even exercise while their regular routines are disrupted.  The Life Enrichment department has asked them to send in videos to share so we can see all their creative adaptations.  Here, George Garrott, a resident of WoodsEdge offers a clarinet concert from the front porch of his home.  The  “Quarantine’s Got Talent” video compilation will be available soon on our website.

NEW RIVER VALLEY COVID-19 TASK FORCE

William Lester, LNHA administrator of the Kroontje Health Care Center, and his team are part of a collaborative task force made up of leaders from local hospitals and long-term care providers.  The group is headed by Stephen Chandler, COO of LewisGale Hospital Montgomery  and includes Dr. Charles Bissell, Carilion NRV Medical Center and Dr. Noelle Bissell, NRV Health District. The group works to share resources relative to supplies, news and information and the transfer of patients to and from hospitals from care facilities in an effort to limit the spread of COVID-19.

COMFORT IN COLORING

There’s something soothing about carefully staying within the lines to brighten up a previously bland page. And though it seems like a kids’ activity, adult coloring books are seeing a spike in popularity. As so many of us look for new at-home activities, there’s never been a better time to pick up a crayon or colored pencil. Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium is offering downloadable coloring pages or color postcards like this floral variety on Etsy. Send snail-mail hugs with a little piece of art you created or write a note and leave the coloring side blank to share the joy with a friend.

THE SUN WILL COME OUT TOMORROW

It's been a hard knock life recently. We feel like this song should be the anthem of the whole world, especially now. "When I'm stuck with a day that's grey and lonely, I just stick out my chin and grin and say, TOMORROW". We hope this clip from Annie brings some sunshine to your day.
