Annual Recycling Education Reminder
It's hard to believe we're nearly through the second month of 2022. With the new year comes the reminder that multifamily property owners/managers are required to provide
  • Garbage and recycling service (including a separate bin for glass)
  • Recycling education to residents (at least annually)
We are here to help you meet these Opportunity to Recycle Act requirements. Request resources or contact us for technical assistance.
Do you manage communities outside of Clackamas County? See our list of regional multifamily contacts throughout the tri-county area who are ready to help with your waste prevention, reuse, and recycling efforts.
Multifamily Mailer 2022
As you may be well aware, our annual multifamily mailer has landed in mailboxes. In case you missed it, in addition to the above reminder, this year's letter features:
  • Multifamily Garbage & Recycling Improvements - Throughout Clackamas, Multnomah, and Washington counties, we are committed to improving garbage and recycling at multifamily communities. Efforts include regionally consistent signage, minimum service guidelines, consistent bin colors, and more.

  • Multifamily Waste Reduction & Recycling Rating Tool - Review and complete the form to self-score your community's current garbage and recycling set-up. Aside from identifying ways to improve your system, you can earn a $100 garbage bill credit* by sending your completed form via email or sharing your score with us over the phone (503.742.4451).

  • We are here to help! We know multifamily property owners/managers have a lot on their plates, and garbage and recycling isn't often near the top. You can always request resources through our online multifamily order form or email/call us (503.742.4451) for assistance.
Find additional information on our multifamily webpage.
*Available for the first 30 scores received from communities with shared garbage service.

Good news - you can dispose of them for free at a local Goodwill or other Oregon E-Cycles location near you.

Recycling 101
For a limited time, take the Recycling 101 course from the comfort of your home (or library), and at the pace that works for you, for just $35!
As the webpage outlines, "Recycling 101 is an online, self-paced course created in partnership with the Association of Oregon Recyclers. Recycling 101 students engage with thought-provoking text and multimedia to learn how their own waste prevention choices can positively affect our planet’s natural resources." It is a great way for staff and/or residents to improve the garbage and recycling system in their communities.

OSU Extension I Mix & Match Skillet Meal
Saving $$$ by Saving Food
Have you ever thought about the land, soil, water, labor (and all the other things that go into growing the food we eat) that is wasted when we let good food go bad? What about the methane gas our food emits when tossed in the landfill? Chances are, probably not. But what about the money we spent to purchase that item?
Studies show that the average family of four wastes $1,500 a year on food they purchase and never eat.
There is an easy solution: Just eat it! ClackCo OSUExtension's Mix & Match Skillet Meal demonstration shows you how easy it can be - toss all those partially eaten veggies (or meat, or herbs, or...) into a pan, throw in some pantry essentials you likely already have on hand, and add to pasta or rice...or make into tacos! Be creative, save the food from going bad, and save money in the process!

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day
The next National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is April 30, 2022.
It is important to properly dispose of unused/unwanted medications to keep our families, wildlife, and soils safe. Many communities have their own local collection events during this time. Keep your eyes peeled for events near you.
For local, year-round disposal options, visit ClackCo's Prescription Drug Take Back webpage to find drop-off locations near you.
