Announcing Christianne Roumie as the next MPH Program Director
I am delighted to announce that, after a national search, Christianne Roumie, MD, MPH, has been selected as the next Director of Vanderbilt’s Master of Public Health degree program, effective August 2020.

Dr. Roumie already has a long and distinguished history with the MPH Program and is beloved by her colleagues and numerous mentees. She graduated from the MPH Program in 2005 and is known an outstanding teacher, mentor, and director of the epidemiology track of the program. She is also involved with public health education as Deputy Director of the Nashville VA Quality Scholars Program and the PI of a T32 program and the Learning Health System K12 Program. In 2019 she received the Grant Liddle Research Mentorship Award and she remains the primary mentor for many epidemiology track MPH students (including non-physicians who have been admitted to the track under her leadership) and junior faculty in medicine, surgery, and pediatrics.

She has filled these roles while designing and executing the interventions to improve cardiovascular risk and morbidity that have brought her national renown. Dr. Roumie draws on her public health and medicine training to utilize population based approaches to improve patient care: her research includes examinations of interactions between cardiovascular risk factor control and medication utilization and evidence-based medication prescribing. Recent high-profile work includes results from a major project about which drugs are best for patients with Type 2 diabetes and one of its common complications, kidney disease.

The search committee and I have every expectation that Dr. Roumie will successfully build on the strengths of Vanderbilt’s MPH Program. Now, more than ever, public health is in the spotlight and our future safety and prosperity will be in the hands of public health leaders trained in programs like ours.

We are grateful to have someone as talented and dedicated as Dr. Roumie taking up the leadership of the Vanderbilt MPH Program.

Please join me in congratulating Christianne.

All our best, Melinda Buntin and the MPH Program Director Search Committee
