Town Hall Meeting Friday at 4 p.m.

Answering your Questions re Re-opening and Ongoing Plans

Head of School Karl J. Sjolund and members of the administrative team will be online for a town hall meeting (passcode:townhall) on Friday, Jan. 22, at 4 p.m. to answer questions about return to in-person classes, ongoing testing, and more. At that time, we will have all testing data from this week available and will have made a decision about whether classes will be in-person beginning on Monday or whether the number of positive cases within our community will keep us online.

COVID-19 Update

TOMORROW Last Return Testing for Day Students

Day parents, If your child has not yet tested on campus this week, they should come to Wood-Alligood Gymnasium for testing on Thursday between 3:15 p.m. and 5 p.m. The test itself takes less than five minutes. Testing is mandatory for students who plan to attend in-person classes.
Half of our day students tested on Tuesday and our boarders tested this morning.

Getting Test Results

If your child tests positive, you will receive personal communication from COVID Coordinator Dan Monahan or Health Clinic Director Melissa Gilliam. If you have not heard otherwise within 24 hours, assume that the test was negative.

Weekly Testing

Once we are in-person, we will begin weekly testing of the entire school population.

No Chapel Today

Because our weekly Chapel was held on Monday in celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and in the interest of students who may wish to watch the U.S. Presidential Inauguration, there will not be Chapel today.

Track & Field Info Meeting

Tonight at 7 p.m.

Students interested in participating in track and field this spring and their parents are invited to an informational Zoom meeting with Coach Burns this evening at 7:00 p.m. (Passcode: Jd5n3G).

Grade-Level Programming

On Thursday during our noon J-Block, students will gather virtually by grade level. Our periodic Grade-Level Programming is intended to build class cohesion. Students have received links to their meetings in Daily Announcements. This week's programming:
GLP 6: Fairy Tales from Around the World
GLP 7: Community-Design Garden Project
GLP 8: TBA
GLP 9: Citizenship
GLP 10: Introduction to Islam
GLP 11: College Visits, Fair, Interviews
GLP 12: Review of Class Banner and Gift Project

Home Basketball Games

Attendance at our home basketball games on Friday and Saturday will be limited to parents of the team members. Boarding students on the team may invite two guests if their parents will not be attending. Face coverings and physical distancing will be enforced.
This year's athletic competitions are limited to schools that are observing similar protocols.

Changes in Pre-College Testing

College Board, the organization that oversees Advance Placement and SATs, announced this week that they will no longer offer SAT Subject Tests and are discontinuing the optional SAT essay. More changes are on the horizon. We are grateful to Director of College Counseling Dan Monahan for keeping our students and families prepared for changes in the college search and application process.

New Students

Join us in welcoming Russ Holland (8B). Russ is the son of Ceclia and Leigh Holland of Indianola, MS.

Thank you!

Thanks to the Rev. Malcolm McLaurin, SAS parent, for his role in our Martin Luther King, Jr. Day observations.
To all of our students and teachers who organized our Martin Luther King, Jr. Day activities and especially to Dean Geoffrey Smith for his coordination of the event.

Congratulations!

To the 84 students who made the Honor and High Honors lists for Quarter 2.

Ordering Yearbooks

All seniors receive a hard copy of the yearbook. Other students are given free online access through the SAS website. Students in grades 6-11 who wish to purchase a printed yearbook may order directly from Walsworth, our publisher. The easiest way to find us is to search using “Sewanee.” Questions? Contact yearbook advisor Chris Monahan.
