MINESHAFT: THE CRUISING MURDERS film still
USA, 2025, Jeffrey Schwarz

MINESHAFT: THE CRUISING MURDERS peels back the layers of controversy surrounding the making of the 1980 thriller, Cruising. Directed by William Friedkin, the film triggered fierce protests from the LGBTQ+ community for its portrayal of a serial killer targeting gay men in New York's leather bars. Friedkin drew inspiration from the brutal murder of Variety reporter Addison Verrill, blurring the boundaries between cinematic fiction and real-life tragedy. Schwarz’s latest acclaimed documentary goes deep into the true crime story that inspired Friedkin’s controversial film. 85 min. plus virtual Q&A with director Jeffrey Schwarz.

Hired by a mysterious man (Robert De Niro), Angel is tasked with tracking down singer Johnny Favorite. When the bodies start to pile up during Angel’s investigation, he learns of Favorite’s connection to the dark arts and begins to question his client’s true identity. "Angel Heart is a thriller and a horror movie, but most of all it's an exuberant exercise in style, in which Parker and his actors have fun taking it to the limit." – Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun Times. 113 min.

SATAN'S SLAVE

SATAN'S SLAVE film still
Indonesia, 1980, Sisworo Gautama Putra

Featuring plenty of spooky imagery, practical gore effects, and an Indonesian disco scene you'll wish lasted twice as long, SATAN'S SLAVE is a fun change of pace that proves that the Catholic church doesn't have a cinematic monopoly on fighting the devil. While mourning the death of his mother, a troubled teen discovers a nightmare world of restless spirits, supernatural vengeance and occult terror. This singular chiller rocked the religious nation of Indonesia and has been restored from the original camera negative. "Hugely influential to a generation of filmmakers" - Fantasia Film Festival. SHERMAN'S MARCH

SHERMAN'S MARCH film still
USA, 1985, Ross McElwee

With SHERMAN'S MARCH, documentarian Ross McElwee originally set out to make a travelogue of sorts tracing General William T. Sherman's infamous scorched-earth march through the Confederacy in the latter stages of the Civil War. Instead, haunted by a recent breakup with a girlfriend, McElwee ends up documenting his progress -- or lack thereof -- in starting a new relationship. His journey then becomes one of self-reflection and self-discovery rather than a historical/sociological exploration. "Earns him a place as one of America's most unique, and treasured, documentary filmmakers." Christopher Null, filmcritic.com. 157 min.

COLOURS OF TIME

COLOURS OF TIME film still
France/Belgium, 2025, Cédric Klapisch

A group of strangers, all descendants of a woman named Adèle Meunier, are gathered in Normandy. The town would like to purchase her long-abandoned property, and four "cousins" are tasked with overseeing the transaction. Thus begins a genealogical journey into the past, taking us to 1895 Paris, with the City of Light on the brink of an industrial and cultural revolution. Aptly entitled "The Coming of the Future" in French, COLOURS OF TIME literally plunges us into a moment in time when Parisian creativity is at its apex... when not only electricity and technology, but photography and Impressionism in painting and music are creating a spark that’s about to erupt into a movement far beyond anyone’s expectations. Cédric Klapisch‘s endearing new comedy is nothing less than a soul-stirring, time-traveling – at times, hallucinogenic – trip for lovers of the arts everywhere. Subtitles. 124 min.
