How many clubs should I join in my first year?
It’s really easy to jump into your first semester and try to join a ton of clubs (and be on about 20 email lists). This can be overwhelming! Don’t try to join everything; instead, go to 2 or 3 organizations that you are really interested in. You can always join clubs later in the semester (or next semester, or next year).
I feel like my friends from back home and I are growing apart. What should I do?
Don’t worry! This is a normal feeling, and coming to college can be tough on relationships from home. Suddenly, you’re a couple of hours away, instead of a short car ride, and you’re busy adjusting to a new place. Maintaining a relationship can be hard because it’s a lot more work now, but if both of you are invested, something that could help is setting up a schedule like “We’ll call every other Monday night,” or “I’ll text them at the end of every week to catch up.” Just because you don’t see them as much anymore or are making new friends at college doesn’t mean they aren’t still important to you.
