Cecilia Noël To Release 'Havana Rocks'

Recorded in Havana, New Album Delivers 80's Rock Classics with A Latin Twist

(Nashville, TN) August 6, 2014   –  The passionate Cecilia Noël returns with her newest album, HAVANA ROCKS, a Latin-infused collection of American classics recorded in Havana, Cuba (under special license from the US Government) with an all Cuban cast of musicians. The album is slated for a September 9, 2014 release. Together, Noël and crew combine elements of salsa, soul, jazz, funk, and Afro-Cuban music to deliver an infectious Latin take on 80’s classic rock ‘n roll hits.
The album includes covers of Devo’s “Whip It,” Gary Numan’s “Cars” and ACDC’s “You Shook Me All Night Long,” along with hits from her husband Colin Hay's 80's hit machine Men At Work, Thin Lizzy, David Bowie, Van Halen, and more, all propelled by deep percussive grooves and Noël’s rich and appealing alto vocals. Marrying 80's hits with Noël's signature "salsoul" sound was a stroke of pure genius and the results are both deeply musical and just plain fun.  In the words of Grammy winning pianist and producer Oscar Hernández: "Havana Rocks because Cecilia rocks!"

Originally from Lima, Perú, Noël’s career began at the age of eight with a starring role in a Perúvian television show called “El Tío Johnny." As a teenager, Noël's mother Menina Pereira sent her to Argentina and Germany to take voice, violin, and piano lessons. Upon returning, she sang and studied under the tutelage of famed Italian bandleader Carlo Berscia. Upon being discovered by the legendary Stan Getz in Peru, Noël moved to New York City and started her career in the US by performing as a principal dancer with Jo Jo’s Dance Factory and later, with Menudo.
In 1989 Noël relocated to Los Angeles and became active in the local music scene. She formed Cecilia Noël and The Wild Clams, and with a sound at once reminiscent of James Brown and Pérez Prado , the band received instant acclaim for their explosive live shows and frequent bookings at the House of Blues and the Playboy Jazz Festival. In 2009 she released A GOZÁR! (Compass Records), an infectious set of playful ‘salsoul’ grooves for which Noël is known, and earned a slot on the critically-acclaimed LATIN PARTY compilation released by Putumayo in 2010. In addition to her work with The Wild Clams and her own solo dates, Noël currently performs and records with her husband, and former Men At Work front man, Colin Hay.
