SPECIAL GUEST LECTURE & BOOK SIGNING: PATHEA REID - BODY AND SOUL Panthea Reid will talk about her book, Body and Soul: A Memoir of Love, Loss, and Healing. Reid will share the story of her passionate love affair with her husband, John Fischer, of the terrible shock of his death three years ago, and of her gradual recovery from loss. Panthea will share amusing and heart-warming stories and practical advice on surviving loss without debilitating guilt and regrets. Ideally, her book will offer consolations and help readers and listeners heal too. Like her daughter and herself, she wants people to go “beyond” and “through,” not “over” loss. Panthea Reid taught at Virginia Tech in the late 1960s (when it was V.P. I. & S. U.). She left in 1974 for Baton Rouge and a position in LSU’s English Department. There she met and fell in love with Fischer, the Department’s authority on Jonathan Swift and Eighteenth-Century literature. In 2001, they took early retirement and moved to Princeton, NJ, where each worked on scholarly projects. Reid is the author of a book on Faulkner, editor of books on Walker Percy and Ellen Douglas, and biographer of Virginia Woolf and Tillie Olsen.
