Announcing the 2024 Winners |
Each year, the Environmental Health team at Clay County Public Health Center honors local food establishments that demonstrated exceptional food safety practices during the previous year. Award recipients include restaurants, schools, child care centers, coffee shops, grocery stores, and more.
For their work last year, 93 food establishments (12% of the establishments inspected by Clay County), earned the Food Safety Excellence Award. Additionally, 23 establishments reached “Gold Standard” status by earning this recognition for three or more consecutive years.
To receive the award, establishments must meet rigorous criteria: they must follow the Clay County Food Code, maintain excellent food safety and sanitation standards, and perform exceptionally well during inspections throughout the year. Additional qualifications include operating for the full calendar year without repeated violations, needing no follow-up inspections, and having no confirmed foodborne illness cases.

| Now is the time to get the shots your child might need to go back to school! Our clinics get very busy in August and availability cannot be guaranteed. By calling and making an appointment now, you can help make sure your child's first day back goes smoothly.
Who needs to take action? This applies to parents/guardians of children going into kindergarten, 8th grade or 12th grade.
According to state law, students need to have received the following vaccinations OR submitted valid exemption paperwork in order to attend school. It's important to note that unimmunized children could be excluded from school during disease outbreaks, for their own health and to prevent the spread of dangerous diseases.
Kindergarten:
|
- MMR booster
- Chicken pox booster
- DTaP booster
- Polio booster
- (If they didn't get it earlier) Hepatitis B
|
Other vaccines may be recommended, based on your child's age. These include vaccination for Hepatitis A, HPV (9+ years old), COVID-19, and Meningitis B (16+ years old).

| Service Updates: Immunizations |
Clay County Public Health Center provides immunizations for all ages and all income levels year-round. Here's a few updates on some vaccines that have been in the headlines recently or whose availability has recently changed*.
|
|
|
-
Flu - The 2024-2025 flu vaccines will no longer be available after June. Typically, the updated version of the seasonal flu vaccine is released in the fall of each year. Flu shots are updated each year to provide protection against the influenza viruses that research indicates will be most common during the upcoming season. Stay tuned to our website for updates on when the 2025-2026 version might be available.
- RSV - Although it's recommended for adults 75+ or ages 60-74 with certain health conditions to get the RSV vaccine in late summer or early fall before RSV season, it is available all year. However, the RSV antibody injection for infants is currently out of season and unavailable. The health center plans to offer it again this fall, in preparation for RSV season. Similarly, vaccination for anyone who is pregnant will resume in the fall.
|
*Availability and eligibility for vaccination at the health center is subject to change at any time, due to changes on the federal and state levels of public health. Here at the local level, we are committed to assisting anyone with questions or concerns and it is our mission to provide protection for all that seek it. Please call us at 816-595-4355 or talk with your own healthcare provider for up-to-date and personalized guidance on vaccination.
