What’s New with PDX Next: More Milestones, Bag Road Closures and December Forum
More Milestones: Last Monday saw completion of Phase 1 of the roof installation – that’s 123 nights of Y columns, shoring towers, platforms and roof modules. As our partners at Hoffman Skanska shared, the biggest accomplishment during this nighttime work was keeping crews safe without any incidents or injuries and leading with a safety-first mindset. Thanks to everyone who helped make the roof erection a success, proving that great things can be accomplished when everyone works (safely) together.
Bag Road: There are several closures and changes for bag road on Tuesday, Dec. 27, through Thursday, Dec. 29, from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. The west lane of main bag road, adjacent to the former MU6 area, will be closed; the east lane will remain open. On the north end, conduit installation will close one lane at a time. Crews will work around flight schedules so they don't disrupt the use of bag claim devices. On south bag road, pipe support installation will also close one lane at a time.
December ForumMark your calendars for Tuesday, Dec. 27, at 10:30 a.m. to get the inside scoop on construction at PDX. Jen Reynolds from the Port of Portland along with Pat Bifone and Caitlin Powell of Hoffman-Skanska will share the latest construction updates and answer your questions about PDX Next in just 30 minutes.
Looking for more PDX Next information? We're keeping you in the know on what's new on the PDX People website. Have questions or suggestions about construction? Email hello@pdxnext.com or call the construction hotline at 503.460.4339.

PDX Closes Out 2022 on a Busy Note
Holiday travel is in full effect at PDX, and even with inclement weather, the airport plans to welcome more than half a million travelers in the closing two weeks of the year. From Monday, Dec. 19, through Friday, Dec. 30, PDX expects about 593,000 travelers. In these last two weeks of the year, the Friday before Christmas (Dec. 23) and the Friday before New Year’s Eve (Dec. 30) look to be the peak travel days with about 52,000 travelers forecast on each of those days. When the clock strikes midnight on Dec. 31, the airport expects to have welcomed about 14.5 million travelers in calendar year 2022.

Be Knowledgeable: Winter Weather
The icy winter weather we experienced is a good reminder to bookmark pdx.com/conditions for real-time information about weather impacts at PDX.
Back in November, KPTV’s Mark Nelsen and Chris Burling of the National Weather Service shared two things to know about our third “La Niña” winter in a row: Temperatures will be colder and wetter than normal and you should expect some valley snow.
The recent weather fell in line with that prediction, and the frosty conditions meant many PDX People worked around the clock to ensure the airport stayed open and operational. A giant thank you to everyone who stepped up, from pre-treating and maintaining the airfields and planes to making sure travelers could eat, drink, shop and be merry. Even when travels were disrupted, your efforts were key to providing top notch customer service.

Therapy Dogs Bring Howl-iday Cheer to PDX
It’s a busy and sometimes stressful time of year as holiday travel picks up, but travelers and employees recently had a reason to smile, thanks to help from some furry friends. The PDX Dog Therapy program courtesy of DoveLewis and their Portland Area Canine Therapy Teams (PACTT) – made a stop at PDX last week. The visit was extra magical as the pups were decked out in festive sweaters and headbands as they made their way around the airport. Learn about the program and see more photos or watch the dogs in action on KPTV and at OregonLive.

PDX in Pictures
Last week, holiday spirit traveled around the airport. PDX People sent in their ugly sweater photos, then our Ambassadors of Fun – along with a very special bearded guest – surprised and delighted employees and passengers with festive fun and treats.
