(Los Angeles, CA) - The International Photography Awards (IPA) announces its 2018 competition finalists. A sister effort of Lucie Foundation, the IPA winners are revealed at The Lucie Awards gala, on Sunday, October 28 at Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall in New York. An international jury of renowned photography experts
http://www.photoawards.com/jury/ has selected these outstanding finalists from approximately 16,000 submissions (38,000 images) from over 130 countries. From the 32 finalists, one winner will be named for each of two categories: International Photographer of the Year, and Discovery of the Year.
Respected educator and contemporary photography specialist, Catherine Edelman is guest curator of the IPA Best of Show Exhibition, which premieres at Splashlight on Saturday, October 27, during the 2018 Lucie Weekend. Since its founding in 1987, the Catherine Edelman Gallery has established itself as one of the leading galleries in the Midwest devoted to the exhibition of prominent living photographers, alongside new & young talent. The gallery showcases a broad range of subject matter, attracting both the seasoned collector and first time buyer. Recently, CEG has expanded its program to include mixed-media photo based art, as it seeks to expand the vocabulary of photography. Their website provides a wealth of information, including artist talks, interviews with art world professionals, an online only gallery for local talent, and extensive educational material. The gallery hosts 6 exhibitions a year, and participates in art fairs throughout the country. Catherine is an active member of the Association of International Photography Art Dealers (AIPAD). This is the first time Edelman has curated the International Photography Awards Best of Show exhibition.
Susan Baraz, Lucie Awards Co-Chair added, “For the 16th year, we are privileged to honor exceptional icons in our photo community at the Lucie Awards Gala on October 28. And the night before, we get a preview of work submitted to the International Photo Awards at the IPA Best of Show and Party, hosted by Splashlight, on October 27. As photography itself is metamorphosing due to technical input, digital work, Instagram, etc., these outstanding photographers provide a touchstone to an art that remains in its pure unadulterated form. The Lucies and the Best of Show exhibit of IPA work provide a reminder of the passion we have for the still image in a now very un-stilled present."
