SMPA is teaming up with the White House Correspondents' Association and Pew Research Center to lead the way on exploring the importance of a free press and what Americans want from their news.
If you're an aspiring journalist or public servant, this is a can't-miss event!
Be among the first to see findings from a massive new Pew Research Center survey on connecting with communities and individuals across America in a time of crisis for politics, journalism and civil discourse.
The Salt Lake Tribune Owner and Publisher Paul Huntsman is the latest addition to speakers including White House Correspondents' Association President Olivier Knox, top officials at the Commission on Presidential Debates and Amy Mitchell, director of journalism research at Pew Research Center.
The conversation will now take place at the National Churchill Library & Center in Gelman Library Room 101.

The SMPA CAN Internship Fund supports rising seniors and returning graduate students pursuing unpaid or low-paid summer internship opportunities.
Applications are due March 31 (that's in one week) and you do not need to have a confirmed offer for an internship to apply.

The American News Women's Club offers $3,000 scholarships to rising sophomores, juniors or seniors based on demonstrated merit, financial need, professional commitment and seriousness of purpose.

The Institute for Public Diplomacy and Global Communication (IPDGC) is offering a grant of up to $5,000 to a promising student for a project in public diplomacy.

APPLY FOR THE BETTY ENDICOTT SCHOLARSHIP
The Betty Endicott Scholarship is available to sophomores, juniors or seniors with a declared major in communication or journalism and a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Emma Briant was interviewed in a ZDF (Germany) documentary on Cambridge Analytica and Brexit. 
Frank Sesno joined CNN for the segment “Trump defends Fox host who made offensive remarks’’ and was quoted in the Atlanta Magazine article “Atlanta’s arts community relies on support from SunTrust and Turner. So what do the latest corporate shakeups mean?”
The 2018 Institute for Documentary Filmmaking student film, “Bow With Me,” was selected to screen at the Manhattan International Film Festival in New York City.
Janet Steele traveled to Australia for spring break to give a series of seminars on “The journalisms of Islam: contending views in Muslim Southeast Asia” at the University of Sydney Southeast Asian Study Center, Australian National University's School of Asia and Pacific Affairs and Monash University's Herb Feith Center for Indonesian Engagement. She also participated in a podcast on her latest book, “Mediating Islam.”
Silvio Waisbord published the article Between Data Capitalism and Data Citizenship," co-authored with María Soledad Segura, in Television & New Media.
ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT
Sophie Ota, B.A. ‘18, is working on mobilization at the 2020 presidential campaign Warren for President. Previously, Ota was a digital writer on the successful senate campaign Elizabeth Warren for Massachusetts. While at GW, Ota was actively involved with WRGW and held a number of internships.

GW WELLNESS WEEK
Departments across campus are holding a Wellness Week focused on health and wellness resources for students. Activities include free workout classes, self-care events, outdoor adventures and much more. 
The week features a Wellness Expo at the Lerner Health and Wellness Center on March 25 from 7  9:30 p.m. with free food, massages, wellness talks, and tabling by local food vendors and GW departments.

GIRLS ENTREPRENEURSHIP SUMMIT 2019
Girls Who Start is hosting a women’s entrepreneurship summit at Halcyon House. The event will feature fireside chats, workshops, giveaways, photo ops and lunch.
The keynote speaker is Elle MacPherson, Australian model, actress, businesswoman, and TV personality. The event will also have several female entrepreneurs, including venture capitalists and beauty brand founders, speaking on a panel.
