Time for Offense, Not Defense.
American exceptionalism is being challenged. Right now. We’ll figure out how to optimize physical distancing and we’ll eventually get the right cocktail of treatments, yet our current state of affairs is all defense.
For the first time in US history, all 50 states have declared states of emergency.
It is time for offense. A coordinated, effective, disciplined, we-are-all-in-this-together offense. Using an NFL analogy: it’s halftime, we’re down 24-7 and our offense has been on the field once and it was three and out. Our only score came from our defense in the form of physical distancing.
To echo my friend Dr. Harvey Feinberg, we need to crush the curve, not flatten it. To get off our back foot and get our offense on the field, we will need cooperation from scientists, economists and politicians. This is a solvable problem. Continue reading...
