Update Your Diploma Name
February 15, 2022
Dear May Degree Candidates,
It is time to start preparing for Commencement 2022!
Please verify the spelling of your name, as you wish it to appear on your diploma, by logging into SIS at go.tufts.edu/sis. After logging in, under the About Me tab, click the pencil next to your name. You will be brought to another window; click Add Name, choose Diploma name. Update your diploma name and click save.
If you wish to have your full middle name or just initial, please include that as part of your diploma name. If using your middle initial only, please include a period after the initial, if desired.
You may also include any accent marks or special characters.
All diploma names will be reviewed for compliance with the Tufts Preferred Name Policy. Tufts University recognizes that members of the Tufts community may prefer to use names other than their legal names to identify themselves. Tufts University acknowledges that a “preferred name” may be used on certain University records as long as the use of their preferred name is not for the purposes of misrepresentation or otherwise prohibited by state or federal law.
The deadline for submitting a diploma name is Friday, February 25, 2022.
In the event you wish to change your diploma name after Friday, February 25, 2022 we are not able to guarantee the change will appear on your diploma on Commencement Day or in the commencement book. A new diploma can be ordered after commencement; there will be a $50 charge for these new diplomas.
Please note: if you currently have a FERPA hold on your student account, your name will NOT appear in the commencement book. If you want your name to appear, you must contact Student Services at studentservices@tufts.edu.
Additional information about Commencement Day events will be shared in mid-March.  In the meantime, you may want to complete the following items:
  • Update your diploma address: For May 2022 degree recipients, if you will not be available on Commencement Day to pick up your diploma and wish to have it mailed you to you, review and update your diploma mailing address in SIS before May 21. If the diploma address listed is not correct, it can be updated from your SIS homepage on the "About Me" tab.
  • Update your “other” email address: Please make sure to review your “About Me” details in SIS to add or update your “other” current email address to your record so we can make sure we have updated contact information for any future communications.
  • Email for Life for Tufts Alumni: Starting with the Class of 2015, alumni have the option to keep their @tufts.edu email address and have incoming email forwarded to a personal account. To send your @tufts.edu email to a personal account, follow the step-by-step email forwarding instructions. As your degree conferral approaches, you should also forward or copy any emails that you want to keep. They will be deleted from Tufts' servers after you graduate.
