Hi Hornet,
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. All month long, Student Health, Counseling and Wellness Services, WEAVE, and other campus organizations have been working together to raise awareness about sexual violence and its impact on the community and survivors. Join us for the annual campus events at Denim Day and Take Back the Night on Wednesday April 24th from 4-7 p.m. in the Library Quad. The event will include the Denim Day Resource Fair followed by the Take Back the Night ceremony and march through campus to honor and empower survivors of sexual violence and help raise awareness to end sexual violence in our community.
Denim Day is celebrated on the last Wednesday of every April and has been observed worldwide since 1999. On this day, people wear denim to show support for survivors of sexual violence. It started as a response to an Italian Supreme Court Case which overturned a rape conviction because the victim wore tight jeans. Today, we continue to wear denim as a reminder that clothing does not equal consent. Join us in the Library Quad during the Denim Day resource fair to decorate denim!
Take Back the Night is a march through campus to empower survivors of sexual violence and advocates for an end to sexual and gendered violence. It began as a protest in March of 1972 when women began marching on their college campuses to demand a less violent future. Join us to learn more about sexual violence prevention at Sac State and honor those who have survived sexual violence. Make a poster for the march during the Denim Day Resource Fair and join us at Take Back the Night!
