Letter from the Desk of Dr. Gonzalez |
Dear parents and families,
It was wonderful to see so many of you during move-in and Parent & Family Orientation. I’m excited to share that during Fall Welcome, your students were introduced to their Career Communities and met a Career Coach, engaged in a two-hour Dialogue Across Difference session, and were introduced to the importance of Healthy Excellence. This is just the beginning of your student’s relationship with the Center for Career Engagement.
We have had a great start to the semester, including hosting First Week, a series of activities to launch students into the new academic year. More than 2,000 of your students stopped by First Day to take a first day of classes photo. The week culminated with the Activities Fair where approximately 400 student groups were highlighted.
I want to share a message of hope that your students received from me and several student leaders on Friday, August 23. We know that last year was a difficult one on college campuses across the country, including at WashU. As we move into a new academic year, we acknowledge our diverse university, call for community, and reaffirm our commitment to freedom of expression. On Wednesday, September 4, we invite your students to join a campus conversation on freedom of expression featuring Chancellor Andrew D. Martin and the Ethan A.H. Shepley Distinguished University Professor, Lee Epstein.
We are here to serve as your partners on your student’s educational journey. If you have questions, please email families@wustl.edu or call us at 314.935.5040 or toll free at 844.935.5040. Helpful information is also available on the parent & families website.
Warmly,
Anna "Dr. G" Gonzalez
Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs

Encourage your student to explore St. Louis or build an itinerary for your next visit!
Neighborhood Spotlight: Cherokee Street
Cherokee Street is a hub for antique shops, art galleries, and restaurants. This neighborhood is also home to the largest concentration of Latine-owned restaurants, shops, and grocery stores in St. Louis. To get there from the MetroLink, get on the blue line at Big Bend station and get off at the Civic Center station. You can then take the No. 11 bus to Cherokee Street and Jefferson Avenue to start exploring.
