CONGRATULATIONS, SENIORS!
We are so proud of our senior student interns! This year, we are celebrating Liam Chamberlin, Rebecca Davenport, Julia Pradel, and Ian Wright, as well as each graduating student who worked with CURes during their time at LMU. Though this year has certainly been filled with the unexpected, you have continued to work hard and achieve greatness. Thank you for your contributions to CURes. From everyone at our Center, congratulations! We're so excited to see where you go next!

OWLETS AT LMU
We recently spoted a pair of Great Horned Owls building a nest for their two fledging owlets on the scaffolding of the Featherton Life Sciences Building! CURes staff asked Facilities Management and Public Safety to secure the area until the owlets were strong enough to fly off. This process is called "branching", and helps owlets strengthen their wings and get accustomed to their surroundings, all under their parents' watchful eye. CURes thanks Facilities Management, Public Safety, staff, and students for respecting the owlets' need for space.
For years, a pair of Great Horned Owls have been spotted in the pine trees outside the chapel, but this year, their nest is somewhat unique. Currently, 156 bird species have been identified on LMU's campus, which is considered a hot spot. Read more about the birds of LMU here!

RESTORATIVE JUSTICE
The CURes RJ Project had a busy semester. Schoene Mahmood and the RJ team conducted numerous trainings and facilitated restorative conferencing for various departments and units at LMU, as well as local K-12 schools and universities. We also convened a spring meeting of the SoCal RJ Consortium and launched our Empowerment Evaluation research with 12 Consortium members. The aim of this evaluation is to support RJ practitioners and experts in examining barriers and key lessons learned in the implementation of RJ practices at their organizations. This can support each participating organization as well as to collectively assess successes and challenges across organizations in the region. We look forward to sharing more as this work continues!

TREE CANOPY PROJECT
The LMU Center for Urban Resilience, in partnership with TreePeople and the Gateway Cities Council of Governments, is working with the City of Paramount to determine priority locations for planting trees. This prioritization will combine our recent LA County tree canopy mapping data as well as the input of Paramount residents and other community members.
By taking the Paramount Tree Survey, the community will have the chance to vote on which benefits of trees are most important to them. The survey results will be used to create a map of where future trees should be planted.
The Paramount community is invited to attend the virtual tree summit being held on June 10, 2021 to take part in the project. The survey will go live at that time. Please contact Bryan Medina (bmedina@treepeople.org) for more information about the event.
