Indulge for Scholarships
More than 100 people bid on auction items, sampled beer and wine, and raised thousands of dollars for student scholarships during November Indulge, held this month at Fairlane Center South. Since establishing the fund in 1995, the College of Arts, Sciences, and Letters Alumni Affiliate has awarded more than $110,000 in scholarships to nearly 90 University of Michigan-Dearborn students.
Rahman named top professor
Ahmad Rahman picked up his first history textbook and sifted through a couple pages. A few more chapters and he was hooked. Over the past decade, Rahman has injected his passion for the subject into the classroom. The Michigan Council for the Social Studies recently honored that passion as they named him Professor of the Year.
Common Core Curriculum
State Rep. David Knezek (D-Dearborn Heights) visited University of Michigan-Dearborn, his alma mater, last month to discuss the state of K-12 education in Michigan and answer questions about the Common Core. The event was sponsored by the College of Education, Health, and Human Services Alumni Affiliate.
Moralizing the Market
Professor Elif Izberk-Bilgin returned to her native country of Turkey to research why Islamists boycott certain global brands associated with Western influence and politics—brands like Coca-Cola, Nestle and Kentucky Fried Chicken.
A nose for research
Electrical and computer engineering senior Nevrus Kaja used his love for robotics—and his dog's keen sense of smell—to propose an idea for a standard-version electronic nose.
Victors for Michigan
University of Michigan publicly launched its historic, comprehensive fundraising campaign, called Victors for Michigan, on November 8. This is the largest campaign in the university’s history and among the largest university campaigns in the nation. Click  here to learn more about UM-Dearborn's participation in the campaign.
