YES, IT’S TIME TO GO FISH!
PUT AWAY THE NETS...

SOMETIMES IT’S TIME TO GO FISHING
Last week I talked about how there is a time to fish and a time to mend nets.
I used that fishing analogy to make the point that there is an ideal time to actively shop for your dream yacht - and other times when you should simply wait and use that time to get your plan together.
Well, it was only a few days later when I saw an article in the New York Post that made me smile.
Seasoned charter boat captain Damon Sacco was fishing about 100 miles offshore from Cape Cod when he saw a fin break the surface. At first he assumed it was a big shark and thought, “Too big to be a marlin.”
He was wrong. It was a 1,260-pound Atlantic blue marlin — the largest ever caught off New England.
That was obviously the time to be out fishing and not mending nets!
The same thing happens when you’re looking for your dream yacht.
There is a time to study the market, get your finances organized, decide what you really want, and mend your nets.
But when the right yacht appears at the right time, it’s time to go fishing.
And hopefully someday soon there will be a photo of you, your family, and your new yacht celebrating the perfect “catch” for your boating dream.

THE BUYERS ARE MOVING AGAIN
LET’S WORK ON YOUR DREAM
| |
THIS IS EARLY - USUALLY IT’S AFTER LABOR DAY
As we talked about last week, once summer kicks into full gear in July, we usually don’t see any real movement in sales activity until after Labor Day.
Families are enjoying the last weeks of summer, children and grandchildren are heading back to school, and suddenly fall is back on everyone’s radar screen.
Well, for some reason, this year the market started moving again after the 15th.
Calls started coming in. Buyers were asking the right questions. And some were even going ahead and making offers. We have several offers on the table right now and even had a survey this week, which is unusual for late August.
WHEN THE BROKER AND THE SURVEYOR ARE SMILING, THAT’S A GOOD SIGN
Just the usual survey items. No deal killers.
Peter sent me this photo of himself with surveyor Ben Dodarell during a survey earlier this week. Ben was trained by Paul Anstey, the best surveyor I ever worked with. Paul’s nickname in the industry was “The Glue.” He never lost sight of one simple fact:
“The Buyer Came to Buy & the Seller Came to Sell.”
Finding problems with a yacht is the easy part.
The hard part comes when the buyer is suddenly staring at several pages of items that his surveyor found and has absolutely no idea which ones are big problems, which ones are little problems, and which ones are simply normal survey items. The surveyor has to put the buyer at ease.
Then you have the seller on the other side.
He believes his boat was perfect and wonders where this whole list suddenly came from. Now the surveyor has to keep him from panicking, refusing to budge, and killing the deal.
The surveyor has to explain that these are real items. If they aren’t dealt with now, many of them are simply going to show up on the next survey - and the one after that so it's better to deal with them now and get this over with.
There is nothing sadder than watching a buyer go through the entire process of finding the perfect yacht for himself and his family - the boat that fits their dream - and then picking the wrong surveyor.
You don’t need someone who simply hands you the longest list of problems.
You need an experienced surveyor who can help you understand what really matters and what doesn’t - and who never forgets the reason everybody is there in the first place:
“The Buyer Came to Buy & the Seller Came to Sell.”

SO, WHAT’S NEW AT HARGRAVE?
COME TO FORT LAUDERDALE SHOW
| |
SEE THE LATEST IN DESIGN
IF YOU HAVEN’T BEEN ON A HARGRAVE LATELY…
This is a great time to stop by our display and say hello.
We will be presenting three of our newest and most exciting Hargrave yachts, all at the same time. These yachts have been featured in the leading yachting magazines and recognized as leaders in our market segment - creating custom yachts in the 80'–130' range.
Usually, we have a varied mix of Hargraves on display, sometimes going all the way back to when we started Hargrave Custom Yachts 30 years ago.
But if you haven’t been aboard a Hargrave in several years, you’re going to be surprised.
A lot has changed in our design department, especially during COVID, when people were locked up and had plenty of time to dream about what they wanted to do when it was over.
You’ll see changes in concepts, materials, and layouts - but the core things that have made Hargrave famous haven’t changed.
Better systems. Higher-quality building materials. More thoughtful engineering based on feedback from owners and captains. And, of course, more storage. All the things that give our owners more reliability, more enjoyment and more functionality.
The three yachts we’ll have on display are completely different - in size, concept and pricing.
You might find one is the perfect yacht for you, buy it at the show, and be heading off on your next adventure the following week.
Or you might walk through these three very different Hargraves, get a lot of great ideas, and decide it’s finally time to create your own masterpiece.
Why not call and let us know you’re coming?
We’ll give you the VIP treatment you deserve.
