Craft juniors present Antiquity Now

Stop by the Ann and Norman Roulet Student + Alumni Gallery to see Antiquity Now: A Contemporary Take on Ancient Processes, an exhibition of work by students studying in CIA's craft disciplines. The show explores the impact of ancient techniques and how they expand into the contemporary world through style, material and concept. Join us on Friday, December 6 from 5 to 8pm for an opening reception. The exhibition runs through January 10.
Also, be sure to visit Getting to Know You in Reinberger Gallery on view through December 13. 

2020 Alumni Exhibition

It is with great excitement that CIA's Alumni Council announces the 2020 Alumni Exhibition. The show will run July 10 through August 14 in Reinberger Gallery at CIA. Submissions will be accepted March 1 through April 1, and all alumni are encouraged to apply. This year's exhibition committee consists of Lesyle Arian '76, Mary Urbas '80Steven Mastroianni '88, Deborah Pinter '88, Teresa Carlisle '06, and Kimberly Chapman '17. More details about the exhibition to come! 

CIA to host alumni events in Chicago and New York

CIA is looking forward to engaging with alumni in Chicago and New York at two events in early March. Alumni will have a chance to connect with each other, CIA faculty, and current students who are participating in the Career Center spring break trip to Chicago or the Visual Art spring break trip to New York. Look for an email with more details to come. We hope to see you there!

CIA NASAD accreditation granted

It is with pleasure that we share with you the news that CIA’s 2018 application for renewal of membership with our subject accreditor, the National Association of Schools of Art and Design, has been granted. Our next comprehensive NASAD review will be during the 2028-29 academic year. We want to congratulate everyone on this renewed membership status, and to thank all of you who contributed such an excellent quality of work to the self-study that CIA submitted to the NASAD Commission for consideration.

Schreckengost award call for nominations

The Schreckengost Teaching Award Committee invites alumni, board members, faculty, staff and friends of CIA to nominate candidates for the 2020 Viktor Schreckengost Teaching Award. This award is presented to a current or former CIA faculty member in recognition of teaching excellence at the College over a period of at least 10 years.

Nominations should be accompanied by a brief rationale and/or testimonial in support of the nominee, describing his/her critical effect on the nominator’s professional life or on the lives of the students in their charge. Please note: Nominations from previous years are considered each year. Please fill out this nomination form or forward your nomination letter to Erin Duhigg, Office of Academic Affairs, by February 20.

Give the gift of a Continuing Education class

If someone on your gift list lives in Northeast Ohio, consider giving them a gift certificate that they can apply toward our Continuing Education courses. CIA offers classes for all ages, interests and skill levels, so there's sure to be something they'll love. Certificates can be easily purchased in any amount through our online form. Recipients will receive a copy of our current catalog so they can choose a class that interests them.

Thomas William Jones '64 has work in a solo show, An American Winter, Watercolor Impressions by Thomas William Jones on view at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California through January 5. This is the first time an artist has been honored with an exhibition during the Library's annual holiday celebration.
Joe Stavec '80 won Best in Show for his piece "The Discovery" at Valley Art Center's 48th Annual Juried Art Exhibit, on view through December 11. The show also features work from Cathy Pavia '71, Kim Zarney '71, Judy Takacs '86, Diane Pribojan '88, Jill Yanik '08, Nathan Manthey '16, and Kimberly Chapman '17.
Kirk Bennion '84 recently visited the CIA campus with MotorTrend's 2020 Car of the Year, the 2020 Corvette C8, which he helped to design. The Corvette's design team also consisted of Candice Willets-Shedlarski '03, Tristan Murphy '06, Krysti Murphy '07, and Brian Stoeckel '09
Kristen Cliffel '90 has work in Crowns: Crossing into Motherhood at the Canton Museum of Art on view through March 8. 
Yuko Kimura '94 has a solo show, Journey Through Mushikui: Works on Paper by Yuko Kimura at the Canton Musuem of Art on view through March 8. 
Richard Zarobell '08 was recently appointed design director for Alexis Bittar. Check out this interview with him in Harper’s Bazaar.
Josette Galiano '14 is a contestant on the new reality show Wrap Battle, a gift-wrapping and design competition on Disney's Freeform network. 

Jobs and Other Artist Opportunities

  • The Mid-American Print Council conference will be hosted by Kent State University in October 2020, with the theme Power of Print: Resistance & Revolution. CIA will work with KSU to host events in and around Cleveland, including events on campus. The call for participation is open through December 13. Cilck here for proposal requirements.   •  The Cleveland Clinic is seeking a curator for its art collection. 

  • Qwickly Inc. is hiring a graphic designer and marketing specialist. The ideal candidate will be a creative thinker with digital and print design experience. 

  • Under Armor is seeking an associate apparel designer with experience in industrial or graphic design. 

  • The Studios at MASS MoCA have announced spring and summer artist residency programs. The application deadline is January 8.
