Words Matter » Throughout the 2016 election cycle, we shared a number of resources from our Voices of the Future program. We will continue to update the Voices of the Future page with new resources encouraging students to use speech and debate skills inside and outside the classroom to get involved in our democratic society. Please email steve.schappaugh@speechanddebate.org if you have suggestions of pertinent topics or resources to share.
New Speech Training App » Practice speeches just got a whole lot easier. The NSDA has partnered with Say It Media, Inc. to provide a speech and debate perspective and create topics for their speech training app, LikeSo! LikeSo helps you train against verbal habits and practice speaking articulately, confidently, and without all of those “likes,” “sos," and other filler words. The app calculates an Articulate Score grade (A+ thru Uh Oh!) based on the percentage of non-filler words over total words spoken and your pace. LikeSo is available in the App Store for just $0.99. Give it a try and then use this survey to let us know what you think! Your suggestions on how to make the app more successful in a squad or classroom environment will go straight to the developers for consideration as part of the next version.
Earn Up to $1,700 » Need help with fundraising? Give Big Questions a try! These debates can be held with your own team or with other students in your area. They can even take place in your classroom! You can earn up to $1,700 to help cover fees for your state tournament, buying new supplies, or getting to the National Tournament. Email lauren.burdt@speechanddebate.org to see how much your team could earn!
