Dear Parents and Families -
We wanted to share with you
a message that was sent to the NYU community by our Vice President for Global Campus Safety, Fountain Walker, referring to recent incidents near our Brooklyn campus. Your student may have already spoken about this with you; we wanted you to have a copy of the original message so that you may refer to it yourself, as well as reinforce the highlighted resources with your student.
As you’ve heard us say before, the health and safety of our students is of the utmost priority. We’ve already been in touch with a range of information and resources as they have embarked on a new school year, including our
Staying Informed email detailing the range of safety alerts that students may receive, and our
Reporting an Incident webpage which guides students to the various reporting mechanisms available should something unfortunate happen. You may also want to view the recording of our
Navigating NYU and NYC Safely webinar we held this summer - while this webinar was specifically created for new students and families, it has great information for everyone.
Anywhere safety incidents occur can be a cause for worry. If your student seems particularly concerned about the recent events and communications, I encourage you to advise your student to get in touch with the
Wellness Exchange and speak with a certified counselor about their unease.
Remember, we are here for your students should they need support – and that goes for you as well. I invite you
to be in touch should you want to connect further on this matter or any other items on which we can be helpful.
Very truly yours,
Rafael Rodriguez
Associate Vice President and Dean of Students
Division of Student Affairs, NYU
