Tam Institute for Jewish Studies Thirteenth Annual Rothschild Lecture
Thursday, November 11, 7:30 p.m., via Zoom
The Tam Institute for Jewish Studies (TIJS) at Emory University will feature lawyer, writer, and journalist Dahlia Lithwick as the speaker for this year’s Rothschild Lecture, titled “The Demand for Justice: Ruth Bader Ginsburg and the Jewish Tradition.” The program will explore the life and jurisprudence of Justice Ginsburg through a Jewish lens, including how her religious upbringing and immigrant background shaped her constitutional worldview and philosophy of what America could and should be.
Particular focus will be given to Ginsburg’s pathbreaking advocacy for gender equality, a topic especially relevant today as women’s reproductive rights have re-emerged as a contentious legal issue on the Supreme Court’s docket.
Co-sponsored by Emory Office of Spiritual and Religious Life.

Emory Celebrates Diwali
The South Asian Student Association(SASA) at Goizueta Business School celebrated Diwali in school on the evening of November 6, Saturday. Harriet Ruskin, Director-MBA Program Office, graced the occasion by lighting the ceremonial lamp and encouraging us with a few words. We had a small prayer, called “Aarti” to pray to Goddess Lakshmi for Diwali followed by cultural performances by the students. Graduate students from Full Time MBA, Evening and Executive MBA program along with their families came together to celebrate the diversity of the GBS family. There was Bollywood movie screening, Bollywood music and dance, and Indian buffet dinner including vegetarian and non-vegetarian menu with wine, beer, and non-alcoholic beverages. The students were really delighted to have an authentic Indian cultural immersion with Indian food, culture, Bollywood music, and dance.
We are also thankful to those who participated in joining the Hindu Students Association for a puja on Friday, November 5, and the Diwali celebration at McDonough Field on Saturday evening. If you are interested in continuing to participate in weekly aarti, follow HSA on instagram here
