Thursday, July 19 - ALL DAY
The California State Fair says "Thank You" to military service members and veterans with FREE admission. NEW in 2018: Free admission is expanded to include Active Duty Spouses and Dependents until 3:00 p.m. (must show valid military ID). The day starts with a helicopter landing in front of the Main Gate at 9a.m.

Splash Dogs
Thursday, July 19 - Sunday, July 22
This is Fair favorite is back for another year! Come to the Miller Lite Racetrack Grandstand and watch dogs jump and splash. NEW this year: a special day for rescue dogs. The Front St. Animal Shelter and Sacramento SPCA will have their dogs available to adopt.

2018 California State Fair Past Highlights
Gender Reveal on the Ferris Wheel!
For the first time ever, the CA State Fair held a gender reveal on the Ferris Wheel. After the reveal, the couple and their friends were able to take ride on the giant wheel. This fun option is available to other parents looking to do a unique reveal for their family and friends.
Camp Smokey's New Look
Camp Smokey has been a part of the Cal Expo Fairgrounds since 1995. For years, their welcome sign read: "Only you can prevent forest fires." Today the US Forest Service unveiled a sign with the new motto "Prevent wildfires." Click the image for more pics.

$2 Taste of the Fair
Thursday, July 19 from 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Food lovers and money savers rejoice! The $2 Taste of the Fair is back again. On Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. every food vendor sells an item for only $2! It's the best way to try various stands at the Fair. Download the CA State Fair app for a list of what's for sale.

Live Thoroughbred Horse Racing
Thursday, July 19 - Sunday, July 22 at 2:15 p.m.

Don't miss the second week of live thoroughbred horse racing, just like the Kentucky Derby, at the California State Fair. Head to the Miller Lite Racetrack Grandstand to catch the excitement, and maybe place a bet or two. Don't know how to bet? There are classes to teach you as well.

MRE Cooking Challenge

Thursday, July 19 at 12:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m.
Check out the action of an intense cooking competition in person! Chefs are challenged to make military grade MRE's (Meal Ready to Each) into a gourmet meal. Watch the competition in person at the Cooking Theatre in the Save Mart California's Kitchen.
