News focused on funding & financing
nature-based solutions
Never in our nation’s history has so much public funding been directed toward conservation as is occurring today.  This unprecedented increase in federal expenditures is coming as a result of historic legislation such as the permanent reauthorization of the Land and Water Fund and passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, which is channeling funding through a variety of existing conservation programs as well as new ones, a major topic at CFN’s Conservation Finance Boot Camp this summer (see public funding session recording from 2023 Boot Camp).

The conservation community has been working overtime this summer to prepare and submit proposals for the dizzying number of current funding programs (see Funding below). Indeed this is potentially a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, as much of this funding could expire in the coming years, and a major challenge is to put this funding to work and use it to leverage state and local dollars, as well as philanthropy and private sector investment. In the coming months, the CFN will be distilling and sharing lessons from the effective and innovative uses of such funding by various groups on the ground.

We know that participants at our recent Boot Camp in New Haven and Conservation Finance Roundtable in Chicago are hungry for such information.  But we are also interested in what else you want to know about conservation finance, and how the CFN can meet your needs through our convenings, coaching and information on our web site, which is undergoing an overhaul this fall.  So please fill out our 4-minute survey and let us know what you want to know about, from public funding to carbon markets and water funds to green banks and state revolving funds, and everything else in between.

Many thanks, and enjoy the rest of your summer.
