You are receiving this email because you are a second-year student in the class of 2023 with the Immersion Vanderbilt degree requirement.
You can check your progress in your online degree audit in YES.
Countdown to April 1, 2021
You have about 17 weeks to submit an Immersion plan proposal. The short checklist below will help you stay on track to submit before the April 1 deadline.
If you are unsure what Immersion is, how to get started, or you have any questions about your plan, then you should schedule an advising appointment ASAP. The OIR is offering advising appointments through December 21 and then again starting January 4, 2021. Sign up for advising or email immersion@vanderbilt.edu
Speak to your professors and other Vanderbilt faculty mentors about Immersion. You may not have another chance until after break! Every Immersion plan must include the name of an Immersion faculty adviser who has agreed to supervise the plan.*
Identify at least one immersive experience that you will complete. What do you have planned for winter break? Will you . . .
. . . start or continue a research project?
. . . apply for an internship?
. . . submit an application for a summer program? (see below)
. . . complete an online course or certification?
. . . volunteer at a local nonprofit? (or start your own!?)
. . . work on a musical composition?
. . . record a podcast based on an experience or research?
. . . look up places you’d like to visit or take a virtual tour?
The best way to get started on Immersion is to consider whatever you are already planning to do, and then fold Immersion into that!
Review your course schedule for the spring and reflect on the courses you have already taken. Can they tie into an Immersion plan, or can an Immersion plan be built out of them?
Learn more about what to include in your plan proposal. Hint: if you have gone through each of the steps above, you should be nearly ready to submit!
*There is one exception for engineering students completing senior design for Immersion. Learn more about pre-approved programs.
