Join the Seton Hall community in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, 2025. The official theme for National Hispanic Heritage Month in 2025 is Collective Heritage: Honoring the Past, Inspiring the Future. This theme emphasizes celebrating the deep-rooted traditions that define Hispanic and Latino/a/x culture while looking forward to the innovation and creativity of future generations.

A New Chapter: Seton Hall Designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution
The U.S. Department of Education recently recognized Seton Hall University as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI). The designation is granted to accredited public or private nonprofit institutions of higher education where Hispanic or Latino students comprise at least 25 percent of full-time undergraduate enrollment

Hispanic Heritage Month begins on September 15 because it coincides with the independence days of several Latin American countries, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua.

| Labor Day (September 1, University Closed)
|
Campus Inclusion wraps up its Americana Exhibit with tributes to Labor Day and September 11 (Patriots Day). Observed on the first Monday in September, Labor Day is an annual celebration of the social and economic achievements of American workers. The holiday is rooted in the late nineteenth century, when labor activists pushed for a federal holiday to recognize the many contributions workers have made to America's strength, prosperity, and well-being.

Mass of the Holy Spirit 2025
Join us for our year-opening Mass of the Holy Spirit. University President Monsignor Joseph Reilly will preside and preach at our year-opening Mass of the Holy Spirit. All Classes will be canceled on the South Orange campus from noon to 1 p.m.

- September 21: The feast of Saint Matthew, Apostle and Evangelist, is celebrated out of reverence for his role as an Apostle of Christ, his Gospel writings, and his work of evangelization

Suicide Prevention Month Mass of Remembrance

In observation of National Suicide Prevention Month, Campus Ministry and Dare to Care will sponsor a special Mass of Remembrance on Monday, September 8, at 8 p.m. for all those we have loved and have taken their own lives.

Kappa Kappa Gamma hosts a Suicide Awareness Vigil on Monday, September 8, at 8 p.m. near the GDS entrance by the fire pits.

- Día Mundial de Ponce is a cultural celebration held in Puerto Rico, the Monday before Labor Day.
- September 4 is Mawlid al-Nabi, an annual festival commemorating the birthday of the Islamic prophet Muhammad.
- September 7 is Brazil's Independence Day, a national holiday in Brazil commonly called Sete de Setembro.

September 16, Mexican Independence Day- A Day commemorating the moment when Father Hidalgo, a priest and leader, called for Mexico's liberation from Spain in September of 1810.
